Chapter 352: Insatiably Greedy
Mindy gritted her teeth and said, โFair? How laughable! Do you really think youโre some kind of prominent young lady? Youโre nothing more than an impostor! Why is it that you, an impostor, can play the role of a prominent young lady, but I canโt? You want to talk to me about fairness? Let me tell you; your very existence as a horrible counterfeit is the greatest injustice to me!โ
โShut up! Iโll rip your mouth off if you dare to call me an impostor again!โ Waverly snapped, her embarrassment turning into anger.
Mindy laughed. โDid I hit a nerve? Are you upset? Hahaha! Whatโs fake will always remain fake! It can never become real! What do you think the Goodridge familyโs reaction would be if I revealed that you switched the test reports all those years ago?โ
โIf you dare utter a word about that, Iโll make sure you never see tomorrowโs sunrise!โ Waverly glared at her relentlessly.
Indeed, she wasnโt the true daughter of the Goodridge family. She was just a girl born in the impoverished rural area of the backwoods, with a younger brother at home. Her father was a gambler, while her mother spent most of the years working away from home, serving as a housekeeper in affluent households. Four years ago, by chance, she discovered the secret that her mother had switched her with the heiress of the Goodridge family. And so, she began to brew a plan in her heart. Once everything was set, she fabricated a false DNA test report and approached the Goodridge family. However, the people of the Goodridge family were so easily deceived. During the re-examination of the DNA test, she stealthily swapped the report through the connections she had made at the nightclub. From then on, she soared high and went from rags to riches, becoming the real heiress of the Goodridge family. And so, Raylee, the fake heiress, was utterly crushed beneath her heel. She had defied the odds and changed her fate, achieving wealth and honor. There was no way she was going to let Mindy ruin it all.
Despite being confronted with a threat, Mindy remained unfazed. โTrying to scare me? Hahaha! Iโm no different from a dead person now, so whatโs there to be scared of? I didnโt want to fall out with you. All I ask is for you to pay up, and donโt even think about ditching me. Do that, and I wonโt ruin you. After all, ruining you wouldnโt benefit me in any way.โ
Waverly coldly rejected her, stating, โI have no money! If youโre so capable, go ahead and accuse me in front of my family. Letโs see who they believe, you or me! In their eyes, youโre nothing but a lowlife who is involved in all sorts of shady dealings! In fact, I think you wouldnโt even have a chance to get near them!โ
โAll right. I get it. You wouldnโt give me money without something in return,โ Mindy said, pulling out a stack of photos from her luggage. As if discarding trash, she tossed them at Waverlyโs feet.
Waverlyโs emotions of extreme anger ignited in an instant when she saw the photos. Those were photos of her unbearable past. She had no interest in studying and had dropped out of school in her early teens. Instead of finding a steady job, she fell intoโฆ
Mindy had taken photos of her entertaining guests at the nightclub and printed them out. Those memories were deeply etched onto her like a brand of shame.
โAre you willing to pay up now? Still want to babble on with me?โ Mindy asked with a triumphant sneer.
Waverly stared at her calmly. โDo you really have to take things to such an extreme?โ
Mindy met her gaze, which was unnaturally calm, and felt a bit unnerved inside. It was eerily calm, much like the tranquility before a storm. But upon reflection, she realized that she was the one holding the upper hand now. It is I who holds sway over Waverlyโs life right now! Whatโs there for me to fear? Itโs Waverly who should be afraid!
โIโve told you; all I want is money. As long as you willingly hand over the cash, I wonโt expose the photos. That includes your shameful past and the truth that youโre not the daughter of the Goodridge family. Iโll take it all to the grave,โ Mindy promised firmly.
Waverly looked at her, her face devoid of any expression as she asked, โMindy, do you know what happens to those who see me as a lifelong meal ticket, expecting me to foot the bill forever? Do you know the fate of those who are insatiably greedy?โ
โYouโre accusing me of being insatiable? Iโm merely following your lead! When you were working in the nightlife scene, you were kept by an older man. You kept threatening him with pictures of the two of you, constantly demanding money from him. Isnโt this how you made your first big fortune? Besides, Iโm only coming to you for money. I havenโt killed anyone. You, on the other hand, were once the reason the old manโs first wife ended up being driven to suicide by jumping off a building with her three children in her arms! You indirectly caused the loss of four lives with your own hands! But didnโt you still go about with your business, raking in a fortune? Now youโve completely transformed, becoming the daughter of the Goodridge family! I didnโt see any consequences for you, so why should there be any for me?โ Mindy retorted.
