Chapter 336: A Sorrowful Realization

Having calmed down, Samuel recalled the words he had impulsively said to Raylee. Her reaction was so calm… Could he have misunderstood her? Regardless of whether it was a misunderstanding or not, he had only rushed to the hospital in such a hurry because he thought Waverly was the one who got injured. After finding out Mindy was the injured one, he simply couldn’t bring himself to care.

“Wavy, how can you be so sure that Raylee is behind this? Don’t be quick to blame someone because of your preconceptions.”

“Samuel, could this possibly be fake? Mindy would never accuse someone without reason.”

Samuel earnestly advised, “Your best friend is no saint herself; she’s always had a grudge against Raylee. Is it really that surprising she would frame her? You’re not a doctor, so you’re not of much help staying here. Come home with me. Don’t loiter around the hospital when it’s not necessary!”

After he had spoken, he glared at Mindy with intense hostility. He was merely throwing indirect jabs when he said all that. The real issue was this malicious, so-called best friend of Waverly’s.

At that moment, Mindy was feeling wronged. The pretty boy, whom she had been keeping, had falsely accused her earlier. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Samuel didn’t stand by her side, and the police didn’t actively pursue the investigation either. This left her absolutely livid.

Am I supposed to just lose my beautiful appearance for nothing? No, I can’t accept this outcome! I must seek justice for myself!

“Mr. Goodridge, you must believe me! It really was Raylee who threw sulfuric acid at me! I have proof, I can confirm she’s the one who did it!” Mindy pleaded indignantly.

Samuel glanced at her with disdain. “What proof? Footage from surveillance cameras? Even if that were the case, what difference would it make? At most, it just proves she’s been in your room. No matter what the truth may be, if she really did it, the police will naturally uncover the truth and give you justice.”

After he had spoken, he turned his gaze to Waverly and said, “Come on, Wavy. Let’s head home now.”

In her panic, Mindy let something slip. “No, it’s not the footage from surveillance cameras! You see, I splashed sulfuric acid on her on campus one night, so she did the same to me in retaliation!”

“What? You’re saying you splashed sulfuric acid on her? Was she hurt?” Samuel asked incredulously, his face full of anxiety.

Mindy clenched her fists tightly, seething with anger as she replied, “She was, but it wasn’t her face, just her hand. That wretched woman’s luck is seriously off the charts!”

The expression on Samuel’s face instantly turned serious. That was when he remembered seeing Raylee’s left hand being wrapped in a thick layer of bandages when he first entered the hospital ward. The injury from the sulfuric acid must have been severe, then! That’d explain the thick layers of bandages! Why didn’t I show any concern for her earlier?

Waverly truly couldn’t bear to watch any longer. Mindy just spilled the beans on her own. This isn’t just foolishness anymore! It’s a complete lack of common sense!

The more Mindy spoke, the more indignant she felt. She had assumed that Samuel and Waverly were on her side. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have bothered to get her out of jail.

Thus, the more she spoke, the more impassioned she became, unable to resist continuing her tale. “Samuel, how could that despicable woman not want revenge on me? Did you know that I initially planned to mess with her back at the banquet? I don’t know why Tiffany ended up becoming the victim instead. I was so mad!”

“What? The men you hired were originally intended to mess with Raylee?” Upon hearing this, Samuel was even more shocked.

Visibly upset, Mindy recounted the course of events. “Yeah! The server had already served Raylee the spiked drink! The person I had arranged, also brought her, who was unconscious, to the hotel room. I don’t know who it was who pulled a fast one and swapped her out with Tiffany, though!”

Who would have thought this was the truth behind it all! Samuel was completely flabbergasted. Just how many shameless deeds has this ruthless woman committed without me knowing? How much more harm has Raylee suffered in secret? But why didn’t she reveal the truth? Why is she carrying this burden all alone in silence?

He speculated with a sense of frustration, only to be hit with a sorrowful realization in the end. Even if she had revealed the truth, what difference would it have made? Would I have believed her? No! I would only have added insult to her injury! It’s no wonder she despises me. As her former brother, I had failed to protect her. She endured so much pain, and put up with so much injustice all by herself!

That was when the image of Raylee tenderly nursing her wounds alone in the middle of the night came to mind. A pang of pain seized Samuel’s heart, and he quickly clutched at his chest.

Waverly noticed something off about his expression and hastily warned Mindy, “Why are you talking so much? You’re spouting nonsense and making up such crazy stories! Your mind isn’t even clear right now, so just shut your mouth and get some rest!”
