Chapter 337: She Brought This Upon Herself

Afterward, Waverly turned to Samuel and said, “Don’t listen to her nonsensical chatter, Samuel. She’s not thinking straight now, especially after her face was disfigured.”

“I wasn’t talking nonsense! I am completely lucid! Every word I’ve said is true, Samuel! Raylee hates me a lot, so she absolutely has a reason to throw sulfuric acid on me!” Mindy clarified hastily.

Samuel’s fists were tightly clenched. Forget splashing her with sulfuric acid. Even violently stabbing her to death would be a blessing for her! If I had a knife right now, I would have certainly avenged Raylee by killing this b*tch!

Biting back the intense rage building within him, he stared emotionlessly at Mindy, asking, “Did Waverly know about the events at the banquet?”

“Wavy didn’t know about that. I had planned everything all on my own.”

“What about afterward? When she gave you the money to help you escape, did she know the truth?”

“Of course she knew afterward! I told her everything, and she asked me not to tell anyone else.”

“So…” Samuel turned his head, glaring fiercely at Waverly as he continued, “You clearly knew the truth, yet you chose not to reveal it. Instead, you decided to collude with your best friend, even aiding her escape? How could you hurt Ray—Ray like this? How could you be so cruel? Have you lost all your conscience?”

Immediately, Waverly denied, saying, “It isn’t like that, Samuel! I was in the dark! Mindy is falsely accusing me! She never mentioned to me that she was targeting Raylee!”

However, her denial was met with no response. Samuel continued to question Mindy, “Did Waverly know about the acid attack?”

Realizing that something was amiss, Mindy didn’t respond immediately.

“Speak up!” Samuel bellowed in a deafening roar.

“No, she didn’t! Wavy didn’t know about that! It was all my idea!” Only then did Mindy realize that Samuel was angry, and quickly changed her statement, saying, “Mr. Goodridge, Wavy truly was unaware of what I did at the banquet. Please, don’t accuse her wrongly!”

Samuel glared at Waverly, his tone filled with anger and a sense of distance as he warned her, “Waverly, you know it best whether you were aware or involved in this matter. Don’t assume that just because you’re my sister, I’d let you off the hook without any consequences!”

Waverly was frightened to tears. She clung to Samuel’s sleeve, her voice choked with emotion as she tried to explain, “I truly didn’t know, Samuel! Why won’t you believe me? I’ve been back in the Goodridge family for quite some time now. Do you seriously think of me as someone without a conscience? I am your sister, Samuel!”

Upon seeing Waverly’s tears falling like rain, Samuel’s heart softened a bit. He warned with a hint of skepticism, “Starting from today, you can’t have any contact with this malicious best friend of yours. You are not allowed to visit her in the hospital, let alone spend any more money on her! She brought this upon herself, so it’s only fitting she faces the consequences of her own actions!”

“I’ll do as you say, Samuel!” Waverly hurriedly nodded. She then pleaded, “Samuel, Mindy already realizes her mistake. Could you please not tell others about the sulfuric acid incident? Look at her face; it has been disfigured so badly, so the rest of her life is practically ruined. Could you just let her off the hook, please?”

Tears streamed down Waverly’s face, her sobs making it hard for her to breathe as she replied, “You’re right, Samuel. Raylee has suffered a lot too. Once Mindy’s injuries have recovered slightly, I’ll take her to apologize to Raylee in person.”

Samuel warned her sternly, “Enough! Stop defending her! If you continue to be friends with this woman, she’ll be the death of you sooner or later! I won’t hold the past incidents against her, but I’ll be watching you closely in the days from now on. If you dare to have even the slightest contact with her, I’ll report her to the authorities and make sure she ends up behind bars with that disfigured face of hers!”

Waverly hastily nodded in agreement. Mindy was so frightened that she didn’t dare to take a single breath.

The following day, upon waking up, Raylee found that both Leonardo and his son were nowhere to be seen. After inquiring with the nanny, it was revealed that they had gone to pay respects to their ancestors.

“Pay respects to his ancestors? Does that mean he took Dodo back to his hometown?” Raylee was taken aback.

I can’t believe Leonardo took my son and left the country without even informing me! Does he even see me as the lady of the house? Since they’re traveling such a long distance, there’s no telling when they would return, if at all!

Raylee recalled her frustrating encounter with the masked man from the night before. She was still not completely over her anger, and yet, he just up and disappeared on her. Ugh, what a jerk!
