“Hold on, Waverly. Don’t rush into breaking off the engagement just yet. Let’s think it over carefully.” Casimir hurriedly got out of bed and started dressing. “Also, wait up! I’ll take you to the hospital!”
Upon hearing these words, the anxiety gripping Waverly finally subsided. She knew she had won this gamble.
I knew it! Men can be such scoundrels, especially cold-hearted ones like Casimir. The moment I stop caring about him and loving him, that’s when he starts to take an interest in me! Turns out, I’ve been using the wrong approach all along! I thought my sincerity would move him, so I was always patient and took the initiative in everything, and what was the outcome? I even found myself moved by my own actions, yet this blockhead remained utterly unaffected!
Now that they had slept together, Casimir’s attitude toward her had changed significantly. He even thoughtfully opened the car door for her when they were getting in.
While driving, Casimir massaged his aching head, murmuring to himself, “It’s strange, I feel as though I saw Raylee last night. Why is my memory so vivid? I even…”
The thought of his passionate kiss with Raylee made him too embarrassed to continue speaking.
Waverly quickly denied it, saying, “Casimir, you were out socializing and got drunk last night, so how could you have possibly bumped into my sister? You must have been dreaming, right? It’s not surprising, though, considering how much you like her. It’s natural to dream about someone you think about all day, so you dreaming about her makes perfect sense.”
“Don’t you mind, though? In the past, whenever I mentioned Raylee, your emotions and reactions were always intense,” Casimir asked with a conflicted expression.
Waverly chuckled. “Not one bit! Didn’t I tell you that I’ve come to terms with it? I wouldn’t care even if you were to marry Raylee right now! Don’t be too anxious, Casimir. I really don’t care about you anymore.”
Upon hearing these words, Casimir couldn’t help but be moved.
Late at night, the masked man was deep in slumber when he suddenly received a video call from Angela, who was far away in East Aploth. “Leo, while we were investigating that Epean professor’s apprentice, we found a crucial lead! It’s Maximus Graebner. Are you still investigating this person?”
The masked man was brimming with resentment, his voice laced with fury as he yelled, “How could I not be? I never gave up on tracking his whereabouts! Bearing the code name ‘Maximus,’ he’s a core member of the international terror organization ‘WC’ and has frequently darted around the globe to orchestrate terror attacks! He is known for his cunning and ruthless nature! My mother was murdered by him. Even if he were dead, I’d still seek out every last bit of his corpse and set fire to them all! However, despite sparing no effort in hunting Maximus down for three years, I made no progress at all! Angela, what’s the connection between that Epean professor’s apprentice and Maximus?”
Angela exclaimed excitedly, “Based on the clues we found, the Epean professor did indeed have an apprentice. This apprentice was a prodigy in medicine, yet rarely made an appearance. When we conducted a broad search for his apprentice’s identity, we came across some surveillance footage. I’ll send it to you so you can have a look.”
“A WC symbol on his back?” The masked man was taken aback when he saw the surveillance footage. “So, what you’re implying is that the apprentice of the Epean professor is a member of the international terrorist organization, WC, and there’s a high likelihood that he might be Maximus?”
“That’s right. We compared his body proportions with those of Maximus and found a striking similarity of up to ninety percent. As such, I believe that the apprentice of the Epean professor must be Maximus!” Angela concluded boldly.
“If he really is Maximus, wouldn’t that mean Ray-Ray has been in contact with this extremely dangerous individual for a considerable period of time?” The masked man felt a shiver run down his spine.
“I was just as shocked. This cold-blooded brute, who could kill without batting an eye, not only spared Ms. Somers’s life but also saved her. Did he have a change of heart? That’s impossible! This type of person lacks even a basic heart, let alone a conscience. All I can say is, Ms. Somers was very lucky.” Angela said with relief.

No matter how hard he racked his brain, he could never have guessed that Maximus was hiding in District Nine Prison.
Based on the timeline, their last confrontation occurred two years ago, when Maximus was in District Nine Prison.
That night, he took the lead with his personal armed force, pursuing Maximus himself.
In the midst of the chaos, a shot had been fired toward Maximus.
Just as he was about to be caught, he sprinted to the edge of the cliff. Without a second thought, he leapt off.
It was such a dire situation, and yet, he actually managed to escape.
The injury to his leg wasn’t fatal, but he was certainly going to need some time to recover.
Could it be that Maximus had been hiding out in District Nine Prison to nurse his injuries?
