Chapter 322: Downplaying Things
Waverly quickly stopped crying. She got out of bed, picked up her clothes from the floor, put them on, and then continued sensibly, โLetโs pretend that what happened last night never occurred. After leaving the hotel, neither of us should ever bring it up again. After all, you want to call off our engagement, donโt you, Casimir? Since we arenโt destined to be together, letโs not be held back by this unfortunate incident. Weโre all adults here, so letโs just treat it as a one-night stand! Even though I find it hard to embrace such liberal thinking, itโs actually quite normal in the modern city, isnโt it?โ
A subtle smile played on her lips as she casually downplayed the situation, quietly observing Casimirโs reaction. Seeing his incredibly conflicted and complex expression, she knew the odds of winning this battle were quite high.
She then raised the stakes again, casually remarking with an air of nonchalance, โWhy arenโt you speaking, Casimir? Youโd better not harbor any feelings of guilt, okay? Sure, it hurt a bit during that time, but it was just a slight pain! All in all, I didnโt lose out. After all, hiring a male model would have cost quite a bit, wouldnโt it? Also, you mustnโt let this slip out, okay? After all, my mom has always told me that we shouldnโt be intimate before marriage. Itโs not that I fear her scolding, but I am worried that sheโll use this incident to ensnare you, preventing you from dissolving our engagement.โ
Casimirโs gaze grew more intricate as he lifted his eyes to look at Waverly. It was noticeable that her walk was slightly off, as if she was deliberately tolerating some discomfort. There was neither clinginess nor lamenting; she simply detached herself from him with an air of nonchalance, even going so far as to tell him not to feel guilty. She was wholly devoted to considering his needs.
Is this really Waverly standing before me? Why did she suddenly become so understanding? Sheโs not possessed or something, is she?
โIโll be on my way now, Casimir! Oh, and Iโll tell my parents to go to your house today and break off the engagement. Whatever you do, donโt let it slip, okay? What happened last night will be our little secret!โ Waverly called out with a smile as she looked back.
Every word she spoke stirred a sense of guilt within Casimir, and her continuous concessions gradually broke down his defenses. Just as Waverly reached the door of the room and was about to leave, Casimir called out to her, โWait up!โ
โWhatโs the matter, Casimir? Is there anything else that you need from me?โ Waverly asked, blinking innocently at him.
For the first time, Casimir really took a good look at her and found himself surprisingly attracted to Waverlyโs beauty. She, with her understanding and considerate nature, was a pleasing sight to behold. On top of that, her gentleness added to her charm even more.
โWas what you said earlier truly how you feel? I find it hard to believeโฆโ he asked hesitantly.
Waverly responded with a smile, โActually, it doesnโt matter if you donโt believe me, because I donโt care. As I said, Iโll have my parents visit your family to break off the engagement. From now on, you donโt have to worry about me clinging onto you anymore.โ
โWhy did you suddenly change your mind? Especially after what happened between us last night.โ Casimir was truly puzzled.
โBecause Iโve come to terms with it. In fact, after leaving the Sutherland residence that day, Iโd understood everything completely. If forcing it doesnโt bring happiness, then why insist on it? Itโs not like Iโm undesirable, right? My background isnโt bad either, is it? I believe, I too, am deserving of love! So, rather than obsessing over you, who is as cold and unyielding as a stone, Iโd be better off finding someone who only has eyes for me,โ Waverly said, her expression calm and composed.
The words that severed their ties left Casimir lost in deep thought.
Chapter 322: Downplaying Things
He had already fallen in love with Raylee. Therefore, he was always cautious and never crossed the line, even though he was engaged to Raylee. Later on, even after his fiancรฉe was swapped out for Waverly, he still consistently maintained that same mindset. Every time he thought about having taken Waverlyโs virginity last night, his emotions became incredibly complicated. Is it guilt? Heartache? Perhaps there is a bit more self-blame involved. After all, ruining a girlโs innocence is a highly unethical act.
Waverly wore an expression of sorrow as she said, โCasimir, do you have anything else to say to me? If not, Iโll be on my way now. Iโm not feeling too well, so Iโm going to visit the gynecologist. Of course, Iโm not blaming you or anything. Itโs just that a girlโs first time is inevitably going to be somewhat uncomfortable.โ
Casimir sighed heavily. โIโm sorryโฆโ
โIf you truly feel sorry, then could you please reimburse my medical bills? Thank you.โ With that, she opened the door and left.
