Chapter 307: Live Off a Woman
While Raylee was indeed very happy, her delight stemmed from Waverly's apprehension, with the possibility of release being virtually nonexistent. Moreover, she had witnessed the embodiment of a man's extreme selfishness and betrayal. He couldn't wait to abandon his fiancée, who had fallen on hard times, and reunite with his former lover.
Initially, Raylee was in a daze from sleep, but she was instantly wide awake the moment she heard the phone ring. With a suppressed chuckle, she asked, “Are you pleased that your fiancée has been arrested, Casimir?”
“No, no, no, my joy comes from the fact that I can now marry you openly and honorably. As for Waverly, I find her situation truly regrettable, and I truly wish to help her, but there’s nothing I can do. After all, the person she offended was the eldest daughter of the Lorimer family,” Casimir clarified hastily.
Raylee continued to tease him, saying, “Oh? Did you just say your mom agreed to our marriage? Hasn’t she always looked down on me?”
“No; you’re valuable now, so my mom has agreed to our marriage! Ray—Ray, you’re doing great now!” Casimir was beyond excited.
“Oh? What value do I have now? And what’s so great about me?” Raylee asked, her tone laced with playful curiosity.
She had just realized that Casimir’s stupidity was on par with Samuel’s. Does he still think I’m the same hopeless romantic from six months ago, whom he could easily deceive with a few sweet words?
Casimir could hardly contain his joy as he said, “Your worth has skyrocketed because you’re with Mr. Foucault now!”
Raylee was unsure how he had found out about her being with the masked man, but she couldn’t care less about it. “Casimir, do you even realize what you’re saying? I’m being with another man, and yet, you’d still want to marry me?”
Casimir quickly corrected himself, saying, “No, that’s not it! I wouldn’t mind if you were with him, and neither would my mom. Please, don’t get the wrong idea! I didn’t mean to give off the impression that you’re used goods or anything.”
“What exactly are you implying, then?”
Casimir stopped beating around the bush and got straight to the point. “My mom says if you could connect me with Mr. Foucault, to facilitate a business collaboration, it would help elevate my career to a new level. Then, I can break off my engagement with Waverly and marry you instead.”
Raylee was utterly shocked. “Wow… You seriously plan to live off a woman?”
At that moment, a wave of nausea surged within Raylee, an overwhelming urge to vomit that she couldn’t suppress. This is utterly disgusting! I feel as though I’ve just swallowed a hundred flies! How could I have had such a first love? Have I really been in love with him for all those years? It was truly frustrating to be forced to recall certain distasteful people and events from one’s past.
“How could you say I’m living off a woman? I’m striving for our future here! Think about it, will you? Someone as globally influential as Mr. Foucault wouldn’t possibly marry you, so why don’t you make good use of the resources while you’re with him? As long as you can aid my career, I’ll make you my wife once you’ve ended things with him. You should know that, even without Waverly, I have plenty of other options available. There are many women who could support my career, but I chose you without hesitation, which clearly shows my true love for you!” Casimir argued with an indignant air.
“Wow! I’m so touched!” Raylee said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Thinking she was truly touched, Casimir then changed the course of the conversation and said with a hint of seriousness, “However, my mother laid down one condition. We must not officially register our marriage until after the first five years. Only once you’ve given birth to a son, can we proceed with the formalities. You have to understand that, in a prominent family like mine, a lady who can’t bear a son is considered inadequate. Therefore, you need to take good care of your health so you can bear me a son. Do you understand?”
This is too much! Not only am I expected to devote myself to another man to seek benefits for him, I even have to bear his child afterward! This is quite a new one even in the world of kept men!
Raylee remained silent, a smile playing on her lips. Curious to see just how far his shamelessness could stretch, she chose not to hang up on him just yet.
Casimir then continued his heartfelt confession by saying, “Ray—Ray, do you know how much I love you? Every moment I spent with Waverly left me feeling utterly nauseated. The mere thought of spending the rest of my life engaged, married, and having children with someone I didn’t love… I find it to be a form of torment. I exhausted all means to find you during the five months of your absence. Countless times, my assistant has told me that you might not exist in this world anymore. My world was falling apart! What’s the point of my existence in this world without you in it?”
