Chapter 308: Heartless People Think Alike
Raylee set her phone aside while listening to his incessant chatter. He claimed to love her deeply, that he couldnโt bear to part with her, and had no feelings for Waverly. It was so disgusting that Raylee wished she could bestow upon him the title of โScumbag of the Year.โ
โRayโRay, are you listening?โ
โYeah.โ
โI love you so much, RayโRay. Are you touched?โ
โYeah.โ
โRayโRay, would you be willing to sleep with Mr. Foucault and help elevate my career to the next level by acting as a bridge between us?โ
Beep! Beep!
Raylee immediately hung up the phone. She felt as if she would crawl through the internet just to give him a good thrashing if she had heard even one more word from him.
The Goodridge family had shifted their hopes of finding Waverly onto Raylee. Harriet took the initiative by playing the sympathy card with Raylee. Right after ending her call with Casimir, Raylee received another call, this time from Harriet.
โRayโRay, I beg youโฆ Could you please take the eighteen years of our mother-daughter relationship into consideration and save Waverly?โ she pleaded.
โYeah.โ
โReally? RayโRay, are you truly willing to help Waverly? On behalf of my entire family, I thank you.โ
โOkay.โ
โBy the way, RayโRay, aside from helping Waverly out, your father has another favor to ask of you. He hopes you can act as a go-between to facilitate a collaboration between him and Mr. Foucault.โ
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Raylee immediately ended the call. One after another, they kept coming, hoping that she would dedicate herself to Leonardo for their benefit.
Heartless people sure think alike! Instead of wasting my time listening to their nonsense, it would have been better for me to have a beauty sleep!
No matter how many times he tried, he just couldnโt get through to Rayleeโs phone. Just like that, he was left wondering if she had agreed to stand with him. Did her responses mean she has agreed?
On the other hand, the Goodridge family was also growing anxious. No matter how they tried, they simply couldnโt get in touch with Raylee, and they didnโt even know where she lived. That left them with no way to locate her even if their lives depended on it. Did her responses mean she agreed to help Waverly? Is she really willing to act as a go-between?
In the three days that followed, Raylee didnโt even switch on her phone. For the Goodridge family, she had always been in a state of unreachability. Alaric had exhausted all his connections, spent a considerable amount of money, yet he was still unable to bail Waverly out. In fact, he couldnโt even confirm Waverlyโs condition in the detention center. Samuel had sought out several lawyers to find out more about the situation there, but all his attempts were met with rejection.
Due to her overwhelming worry for her daughter, Harriet fell ill. Alaric and Samuel were anxiously pacing around their home.
โHave you managed to get in touch with Raylee? That cheeky girl, I canโt believe sheโd disappear right when we need her the most! Is she doing this on purpose to make us anxious? Would she really try to persuade Mr. Foucault to save Waverly? F*ck! Was she playing us all along?โ
Alaric couldnโt stop hurling abuse under his breath.
Samuel said with a serious expression, โEven if we manage to get in touch with her, what good would it do? She has always despised Waverly, wishing nothing but the worst for her. How could she possibly have Mr. Foucault save her? In my opinion, we should consider other alternatives!โ
โIโve tried every possible solution, but those people are avoiding me like Iโm some sort of plague! And then thereโs Casimir. One moment he says heโs busy, and the next he says heโs trying to figure something out. Iโm starting to suspect heโs avoiding me too! Couples are supposed to stick together, yet when disaster strikes, they often abandon each other and go their separate ways. This young man better not be thinking of abandoning my daughter in this crucial moment!โ Alaric said, clearly frustrated.
Visibly upset, Samuel declared, โIโll make him pay if he dares to do that!โ
โForget about that, Samuel. I need you to help me spread a message. Tell everyone Iโm willing to pay anyone any amount as long as they can rescue Waverly, even if they have to resort to questionable or illegal methods.โ
โAny amount? Dad, what if someone demands an exorbitant amount?โ
โWeโll just stall for time by misleading whoever rescues Waverly. We can worry about keeping our promises later.โ
She had Plumpy go negotiate with Alaric, demanding thirty percent of Goodridge Groupโs shares and the contents of Veraโs safe. Waverly could be released as long as he agreed to her terms. Otherwise, he could forget about getting Waverly out of police custody. Upon hearing this, Alaric instantly lost his temper at Plumpy.
โThirty percent of the shares? I canโt believe you have the audacity to say that! Even a thief wouldnโt be as greedy as that!โ
I would have to give it some serious consideration even if she were demanding a mere three percent of the shares, let alone thirty!
โIf you could immediately transfer the shares, then Ms. Waverly can be released at once. My promise is valid for twelve hours,โ Plumpy stated calmly.
Alaric firmly declared his refusal, saying, โThatโs impossible! I can give you three percent at most. You need to understand Goodridge Groupโs market value. Think about how much three percent is worth. I suggest you not be so greedy and just accept what you can get. How about this? On top of three percent of the shares, Iโll give you an additional ten million in cash. Is that okay?โ
