Chapter 160: Certain Death Awaits

Much to her surprise, nothing happened after that. Raylee was dumbfounded. "What on earth is going on!"

Bastian looked at her baffled expression and burst into uproarious laughter. โ€œI didnโ€™t load the gun. Itโ€™s empty, hahahaโ€ฆโ€

Having been made a fool of, Raylee flew into a rage of humiliation. โ€œDid you do it on purpose?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s right. I wanted to test your bravery, but the outcome was beyond my expectations. I figured there was a good chance youโ€™d shoot Jeremiah, given how much you despise him. Taking revenge when the opportunity arises can be quite satisfying, after all. I even thought you might be more ruthless, shooting yourself for a quick death. Of course, I had considered the possibility of you pulling the gun on me, even fighting me to the death. What I never anticipated, though, was your outrageous plan to capture the leader and escape with Jeremiah. Your courage has surprised me, and I like you even more now. What should I do?โ€

Listening to Bastianโ€™s sarcastic remarks, Raylee was not only filled with anger, but her entire body was also drenched in cold sweat. Defeat was the only thing that flashed through her mind.

Discarding the empty gun, she turned her gaze to Jeremiah, who was curled up against the wall from the kick. Despair was evident in her eyes. Could it really be that Jeremiah is doomed? Am I also fated to follow Bastian for the rest of my life, enduring the twisted experiences this psychopath would subject me to?

I had clearly managed to control Jeremiah with incriminating evidence. Given enough time, I would marry him. After becoming the lady of the Lorimer family, I would have been able to leverage the familyโ€™s power to seek vengeance against the Goodridge family for my past grievances. The Lorimer family was supposed to be a powerful stepping stone for me. How did such an unexpected twist of fate occur!

Once Jeremiah was dead, it didnโ€™t matter if she made it back alive. All that awaited her would be certain death. Why did fate have to treat me this way? The path I had painstakingly laid out for myself has been abruptly cut shortโ€ฆ

At that moment, tears welled up in Rayleeโ€™s eyes, as she couldnโ€™t hold them back any longer. โ€œWhy are you crying? My darlingโ€ฆโ€ Bastian reached out, intending to wipe away her tears.

Bang! Suddenly, the door to the secret room was kicked open. By the time Raylee had come to her senses, Bastian had already been subdued, with a gun pointed at his head.

โ€œBehave yourself, or Iโ€™ll blow your brains out!โ€ a stern voice warned Bastian fiercely.

โ€œAlright, alright, I wonโ€™t move. Just donโ€™t shoot. Whatever you want me to do, Iโ€™ll do itโ€ฆโ€ pleaded the usually fearless Bastian, who was trembling with fear.

In stark contrast to his earlier arrogance, he now seemed like a completely different person. Under the dim light, Raylee focused her gaze and saw the man who had barged in. It was Bradley, the bodyguard sent byโ€ฆ

After she was separated from her bodyguards at the dock, she never expected Bradley could still infiltrate the industrial park to rescue her. This person is truly no ordinary individual!

โ€œMs. Somers, Mr. Lorimer, I apologize for my late arrival, causing you to suffer. Now, please, come with me,โ€ Bradley said.

โ€œAlright, I appreciate it.โ€ Immediately, Raylee rushed over to help Jeremiah to his feet. When she reached out to steady him, he was taken aback. Despite her slender figure, she was able to effortlessly help him up.

It was unclear what Jeremiah had gone through these past couple of days, but he had shockingly lost a significant amount of weight. Recalling the dreadful state he was in from his drug withdrawal when she first entered the secret room, she let out a sigh. All one could say was that there was always something despicable about a pitiful person.

โ€œTake me out through the least crowded exit. Try any tricks, and Iโ€™ll blow your brains out!โ€ Bradley threatened.

Bastian didnโ€™t dare to even breathe, obediently saying, โ€œIโ€™ll lead you through the industrial parkโ€™s hidden exit. There are no guards there. Just be careful with your gun.โ€

Raylee looked at his current pathetic state and felt a wave of satisfaction wash over her. Even though her attempt to take out the leader had failed earlier, Bastianโ€™s defeat came swiftly. Just as he continued to treat her like a plaything, he ended up being captured. This time, the gun used was loaded with real bullets.

Judging by the extent of Bastianโ€™s trembling, it was clear that he was afraid of death, and very much so. Bastian didnโ€™t pull any tricks. He led them through a hidden passage, where they successfully left the industrial park.

After that, Bradley continued to hold him hostage, leading him down a narrow path. There were dense forests on either side. They were so dark that they looked like massive black holes. It seemed as though their mouths were gaping open, ready to swallow anyone who wandered off whole.

They trudged along a path comprising entirely of squelchy mud. Shrouded in darkness, they could only move forward by relying on their gut.

โ€œBoss, when will you let me go?โ€ Bastian had asked several times, but Bradley simply ignored him. โ€œYouโ€™re not planning to kill me, are you? Youโ€™re not being honorable!โ€

In a fit of rage, Bastian managed to break free from Bradley under the cover of darkness. He then darted into the nearby jungle. Bang! Bang! Bang! Bradley fired several shots in the direction of his escape. All that could be heard was a pained grunt. It seemed that Bastianโ€ฆ
