Chapter 161: Death Is Inevitable
Bradley wanted to chase after Bastian, but Raylee held him back. โLet him be. We need to hurry up and go!โ
โAlright, weโre not far from our helicopter anyway,โ Bradley nodded in agreement.
โHelicopter?โ The thought of him having a rescue plan hadnโt crossed Rayleeโs mind, and suddenly, she was filled with hope.
Jeremiah, however, had reached his physical limits, collapsing into the mud. Immediately, Raylee supported him, asking, โAre you alright?โ
โMy drug withdrawal is acting up againโฆโ he mumbled softly.
โHang in there, weโre about to be rescued. It wasnโt easy to escape; you simply canโt give up now,โ Raylee encouraged him.
โAlright. IโฆIโll do my best.โ Jeremiah nodded, gritting his teeth. He grabbed Rayleeโs arm again, his pain obvious in his voice. โIf I make it back alive, Iโll marry you immediately, okay?โ
Without any hesitation, Raylee nodded. โOkay!โ Jeremiah tightened his grip on her hand and, with heartfelt sincerity, declared, โIn this lifetime, I will never let you down.โ
โEnough talk, save your energy to propose to me when we get back,โ Raylee urged, offering a comforting word before she continued to drag and pull him forward.
Fifteen minutes later, they boarded a helicopter. โMs. Somers, Mr. Lorimer, we are heading to the airport now,โ Bradley announced. โA private jet is waiting to take us back home.โ
โAlright, thank you, Mr. Kline.โ
Sighing in relief, Kaylee and her companions had finally managed to escape. The perilous journey to Musimeynia, where they had narrowly escaped death, was finally coming to an end. Both she and Jeremiah had survived and were on their way back.
However, Raylee was in no position to be happy yet. At that moment, Jeremiah was being brutally tormented by the agony of drug withdrawal symptoms. He was curled up in a chair, his face devoid of color. His entire body was drenched in cold sweat.
Bradley approached, asking, โMr. Lorimer, do you wish to put an end to this suffering?โ
โDo you have any painkillers here?โ Kaylee exclaimed with joy. โPerfect, bring them over and let him take them first.โ
The painkillers Percival gave her were extraordinarily potent, so other painkillers should presumably work as well. Unbeknownst to them, Bradley didnโt bring any medicine. Instead, he pulled out a gun.
Rayleeโs eyes widened in alarm. โWhat are you doing?โ
Bradley answered her question through his actions. He aimed the gun at Jeremiahโs heart and pulled the trigger.
โNo!โ
The startled cry of Raylee and the sound of the gunshot rang out almost simultaneously.
Bang!
In the confined space of the helicopter, a wave of tremors was triggered by the gunfireโs shockwave. Immediately after, Bradley fired a second shot.
From the moment the gun was drawn to the moment it was fired, everything happened in the blink of an eye, too fast for Raylee to even react. However, by the time she regained her senses, Jeremiah had already collapsed in a pool of blood. Yet Bradley showed no signs of stopping, continuing to pull the trigger.
She immediately threw herself onto Jeremiah, pleading, โDonโt shoot anymore!โ
โMove aside!โ Bradley commanded. At that moment, he held a gun in his hand, his face radiating a terrifying murderous intent. He was like a ruthless executioner, ready to tear Jeremiah to pieces.
โNo, you canโt! If youโre going to kill him, you might as well kill me too!โ Raylee defended Jeremiah with her life. Her face was as pale as a sheet, her lips quivering as she spoke. Despite the evident terror, she bravely glared at Bradley, who seemed to have lost his mind.
The unwavering determination and courage to face death ultimately softened Bradleyโs heart. Finally, he stowed away his gun.
Whether he continued firing or not, Jeremiahโs fate was sealed. Firstly, in the desolate wilderness, he couldnโt get immediate help. Next, he had been shot in the heart. Even with immediate medical help, it would have been impossible to save him.
Upon seeing Bradley put away his gun, Raylee let out a sigh of relief. She quickly covered the area where Jeremiah was injured, her entire body trembling from her panic.
โJeremiah, you must survive. Just hold on now. Once weโre back in our home country, youโll be saved.โ
โDonโt bother.โ Bradley casually glanced at them. He yelled at the man piloting the helicopter. โFind the nearest place to land. Iโm going to kick them out.โ
Raylee, both infuriated and puzzled, yelled, โWhy did you attack Jeremiah? You went to great lengths to save us, only to put us in mortal danger again. You might as well have not saved us and let us die in the industrial park!โ
โOf course, I had to save you. To give you a glimmer of hope, only to shatter it, plunging you from heaven to hellโฆ Thereโs no more painful way to die,โ Bradley remarked, a cruel smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. His cruel and bloodthirsty demeanor was in stark contrast to the image his formal attire conveyed.
โBut youโre a bodyguard sent by Casimir. Youโre supposed to protect me. Why would you do this?โ Raylee, with her bloodshot eyes, demanded an answer.
