Chapter 626: Is Gareth Dead?
Caden pulled a sharp dagger, slamming it onto the desk beside Dorian's ear. The blade grazed his earlobe. "He's still alive," Caden hissed, "but if he dies, you're not getting off easy."
Dorian sneered. "Caden, you're all talk. You've never killed anyone. Think you can start with me? Want to test me?"
A fierce light flickered in Caden's eyes. Dorian smirked. "I'm waiting."
Caden's breathing was heavy as he fought to control his anger. He withdrew the dagger and released Dorian, who calmly adjusted his attire.
"Caden," Dorian said, "if Gareth dies today, that's his destiny. But if he survives, then your destiny is sealed."
Caden didn't turn around. "I control my own fate."
Dorian burst into mocking laughter. "Control your own destiny? Don't flatter yourself."
When Caden returned to the operating room, an exhausted doctor emerged. "Mr. Ward," he said, "the medication still hasn't arrived. There was a complication." Caden had dispatched someone for it, but too much time had elapsed. Even if it arrived now, Gareth's chances were slim.
Determined, Caden offered his other arm. "Continue the transfusion."
The doctor was startled. "Your body can't take much more."
"I won't die," Caden insisted. "Go ahead."
Bag after bag of blood was transferred to the operating room. Caden sat silently beside the blood collection machine, utterly still. Near the end, the doctor said, "Mr. Ward, we can't take any more."
Caden slowly closed his eyes, his weakness overwhelming. "How is Gareth?"
The doctor replied, "His condition hasn't improved, but it hasn't worsened either. Be ready for any outcome."
Caden acknowledged with a low murmur. After the doctor left, Caden, his movements shaky, rose to get something to eat. Just then, a bodyguard hurried towards him…
