Chapter 70

What happened last night made Evelyn feel as if she had the sword of Damocles hanging over her head. She could not rest easy. She kept feeling that the matter was not yet resolved. After giving it deep thought, she decided to take the initiative to resolve it.

Evelyn placed a call to Lucas, but he seemed to be busy with something and did not pick up. Perhaps he was deliberately not answering her call. Evelyn didn't care about the reason anymore. She simply headed straight to Blurzen. She had been working at Bloom for three years, after all, so the receptionist knew her. Evelyn called Michael, but he said indifferently, “Mr. Grant’s busy. You’ll have to wait for a while. Mi Beed.”

Evelyn went upstairs to the reception area. Michael saw Evelyn, but he did not walk over to greet her. He simply turned around and went about his business. The others at the secretariat, however, were very familiar with Evelyn.

In the past, Evelyn wanted to get to know more about Lucas, so she made friends with them. They had shared conversations over meals, and Evelyn found out a lot about him. They were quite happy to see Evelyn; they exchanged pleasantries, one of them said, “Mr. Reed, you’re going to have to wait for a while. Mr. Grant has an important guest in his office.”

To an important guest. That’s the apple of Mr. Grant’s eye. Evelyn figured that the person was Tiffany. In other words, it wasn’t because Lucas was swamped with work that he wasn’t meeting her. Rather, it was because he was keeping Tiffany company that he kept her waiting.

“Ms. Modice is so lucky. She’s practically being treated like Mr. Grant’s wife in our company right now. She’s able to come in and out as she wishes without any restrictions. She can just head into Mr. Grant’s office as she pleases. As I heard, her lipstick was all messed up when she came out of the office yesterday!”

“Oh my gosh! They’re probably getting freaky in the office?”

Evelyn listened to all that with a numb feeling; it was as if she was an outsider. She needed to book an appointment and wait to see her husband, yet Tiffany was able to head in and out of his office without any restrictions. Everybody had to make way for Tiffany. The secretaries brought Evelyn a cup of coffee and carried on with their work.

She waited for almost two hours. There were plenty of people going in and out of the office, but nobody ushered her in. She took a deep breath and felt that waiting any longer was not the way to go. Coincidentally, she saw Michael turning a corner and walking over.

She got up and asked, “Is Lucas still busy?”

Michael looked at her, and he suddenly smiled with a file under his arm. “Why are you still here?”

“What do you mean?” Evelyn asked.

“My apologies, Ms. Reed. Didn’t you know you were waiting here? He brought Ms. More out for lunch an hour ago. Did you not see them?” Michael looked shocked, but his gaze was evasive.

Did he deliberately not inform Lucas that Evelyn had come? Did Lucas make her wait in vain because he did not want to see her? Either way, it made Evelyn feel suffocated. Evelyn glanced at Michael calmly before she turned around and left.

Michael took a look at Evelyn’s back; he had expected this; he was right. He thought Evelyn had integrity the last time she ignored him after seeing him. However, she came again, looking for Lucas. No matter how much she kept it, it was a fact that she could not leave Lucas.

Evelyn finished the rest of her work after she returned.

Flying Seal Coup

Lucas did not make his stance clear, and she could not see him. However, she still needed to talk things through with him. Evelyn gave it thought and decided to return to their home after work. However, Evelyn received a call from Leund in the evening. He told her that Lucas had gone to the hospital to visit him. Evelyn’s expression changed rapidly.
