Chapter 71

By the time Evelyn rushed to the sun atrium, Lucas was standing in the hallway, smoking. He was a striking figure, but he looked cold and unsympathetic. Evelyn’s heart was pounding. Her expression was not pleasant.

Luras was a scheming villain, but he always struck where it hurt. He was simply trying to use Leonard to threaten Evelyn into a compromise.

Evelyn walked up to Lucas and asked, “Can we talk?”

Lucas slowly turned and looked at her. “What are you nervous about?!”

His question choked Evelyn. She knew things were different now. She had no choice but to soften her tone and say, “The manor was Granny’s home when she got married. She and my grandfather lived there their whole lives. That’s the most important thing to her. Can you give up—”

She probably had to pause, as she was still gasping for air as she spoke.

Lucas looked at her indifferently and said, “Her mother likes that place very much.”

It seemed like he was jeering Evelyn. Did that mean Lucas was willing to let Evelyn and Deborah lose the home they had spent their whole lives in, just to make Tiffany’s mother happy?

Trlyn once wanted Lucas to come and visit Leonard and Deborah. However, her urging did not work at all. This time, he spent time on his own, but it was for Tiffany’s sake.

Evelyn let out a sigh in her head, but she said in an incredibly steady voice, “Lucas, I know you always get what you want, but you can’t have it this time. Granny is disgusted by Tiffany’s mother. If she finds out that the buyer is still involved, she won’t be able to take it. Can you just do me a favor since we’re a married couple?”

That was because Evelyn knew very well that Lucas would have a million other means to get what he wanted, even if she disagreed. She could not afford to gamble. Because of that, she was practically pleading with him. This was the first time she had appeared in such a vulnerable state in front of him in these years.

Lucas looked askance at her for a while, deep in thought. He put out his cigarette and looked at her with one hand in his pocket. “It’s alright if you don’t want to sell.”

Evelyn looked at him, stunned. She was shocked by his mercifulness.

However, Lucas asked, “Do you have something to do with the incident with Ms. Stewart?”

It finally dawned on Evelyn that Lucas wasn’t being merciful at all. He was simply using the sale of Deborah’s manor as leverage because of what happened on Donald’s end. He wanted to make Evelyn swallow her pride and beg him. He just wanted to buy Deborah’s manor to spite Evelyn. Was he taking revenge for Tiffany? Did he think Evelyn was the reason his outstanding Tiffany wasn’t chosen? No matter what, he was on Tiffany’s side at the end of the day.

Evelyn calmed herself and looked right at him. “No. The things between her and I are our personal business. Mr. Stewart is part of the government. There’s no way he’d be manipulated by me into making this big decision.”

Lucas clearly knew that very well. He just made this fuss because he felt Tiffany had been wronged. He was just intimidating Evelyn to protect Tiffany.

“That’s true.” Lucas carefully looked at her reddened eyes and asked, “Can you tell me if there are other experts other than Sebastian in Flying Seal Group?”

Evelyn frowned. She was shocked by how sharp Lucas was.

“All the technicians in Flying Seal Group are graduate students from elite universities,” she replied calmly.

No matter how outstanding Tiffany was, she was not the only one in the world.

Luras understood what Evelyn implied. Surprisingly, he didn’t get angry. He just smirked mysteriously and was quite calm. Then, he looked at his watch and said, “Mhm. Got it.”

After a pause, he looked at her and asked, “Do you need me to give you a lift home?”

Evelyn knew he was asking out of courtesy and didn’t mean it. “No, thanks,” she replied.

“Alright.” Lucas left without hesitation.

Evelyn looked at his tall and distinguished back. She couldn’t quite figure him out. However, regardless of whether Lucas would pull any tricks, Evelyn understood one fact: a family like Tiffany’s could not afford a manor worth 20 million dollars. In the end, Lucas would be the one to pay for Tiffany. Lucas was willing to give Tiffany his heart and soul and his all. However, these years Evelyn was married to him, all she got was hard work day and night.

Autor Millie, she certainly had her heart set on Deborah’s manor. She simply wanted to regain her dignity at the place where she once felt weak and insignificant. She wanted to tell the Reed family that the tables had turned. Les called and asked if she had left.

Evelyn noticed that Lucas hadn’t told Leonard the reason they were getting a divorce. He hadn’t tried to talk Leonard into selling Deborah’s manor either.

Evelyn let out a sigh of relief and said, “He left. You should get some rest, Uncle.” “Alright. Have a safe trip home, Dafwoodyou,” said Leonard.
