The next day, out of habit, Sophia went to Lucas's marital home after school. She was starving and immediately called for Evelyn once she entered the door. A housekeeper came out to take her bags inside, saying, “Mr. Grant isn’t home at the moment.”
Towing her bags, Sophia asked in surprise, “Isn’t she supposed to be done cooking by now!” After all, she knew that Evelyn prepared lunch for Lucas on a daily basis. The marital house was also near Herzen, so Evelyn always meal-prepped before going to work, rushed back home during her lunch break, and had Michael deliver the food to Lucas. Despite the fact that Lucas refused to see her, she had never stopped sending him lunch.
Hence, Sophia came over today, intending to have a taste of Evelyn’s cooking. Although Evelyn might have been useless, she was a quick learner and her cooking suited Sophia's tastes. However, Sophia discovered that there was no food awaiting her, putting her in a foul mood. Why was Evelyn becoming more and more unreliable?
The housekeeper was also confused as to what was happening. Evelyn had always been gentle and considerate. Back then, she wouldn't even miss a business trip for Lucas's sake.
In truth, Sophia was in a terrible mood throughout the day. She had found out the day before that Tiffany had caught a fever; she had planned the day off from school to visit Tiffany. It wasn't proper for her to show up empty-handed. She knew that sick people should eat something nourishing and warm, but she didn't know how to cook. It would be insincere of her to buy pre-cooked food, so she had thought of asking a good cook—and she could ask Evelyn to cook something for her.
Sophia plopped down on the couch and called Evelyn. Evelyn had just finished a meeting with Sebastian on the endless possibilities a drone could have. She had some new ideas and planned to enhance some of the drones’ internal systems. Not wanting to waste her time eating in the cafeteria, she asked Sebastian to bring some food up for her.
When she noticed that Sophia was calling, she quickly declined the call. However, Sophia was relentless and continued to call her repeatedly. Sophia’s calls were beginning to affect her work, so Evelyn decided to block Sophia’s number. After finally having some peace, she quickly got back to work.
Sophia bit her lip, feeling extremely angry as she listened to the busy tone. Was Evelyn ignoring her? Evelyn would never ignore her calls in the past, always behaving in a gentle and accommodating manner in an attempt to please her…
With no choice, she called Lucas. Lucas's voice was cold as he answered the phone. “What’s wrong?”
“Lucas, I can’t seem to get a hold of Evelyn, and she’s not answering any of my calls. I went to your place, but she hasn’t come back to cook yet.”
He thought a moment, after which he answered. “I’ve not been in contact with her, so I wouldn’t know.”
“Can’t you just ask her to go home and cook some food for me?”
Lucas’s cold voice rang out, his voice sounding sharp and steely.
Sophia recoiled, murmuring, “Tiffany’s sick, and I want to check up on her, but I can’t go empty-handed either. Lucas, how am I supposed to get her to come home!”
He was silent for quite some time before he said faintly, “Your grandma loves her cooking.”
Suddenly, a maternal instinct surfaced before she quickly came to her senses. That’s right! She could use this to make Evelyn come home and cook for her!
After dealing with some issues with the drone systems, she made an appointment with her doctor at 1:00 pm. She then alarmed Sebastian that she had to leave, so he offered her a ride. However, she rejected the offer since she had no intention of letting him and Pestina know about her condition. Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she realized that Sophia had messaged her again.
Sophia claimed that Tiffany had lost her appetite lately and was thinking of her. She had also sent a few messages complaining about how she wasn’t able to reach her.
However, she quickly considered that she was about to divorce Lucas, so going to the Grant Manor felt inappropriate. Looking at the Pieter. Denlyn decided to return to the apartment she shared with Lucas.
When Margaret saw her, their eyes lit up as they asked, “Miss Grant, you’re finally back! We’ve already cleaned your room. Would you like to rest?”
“Practically. I’ll leave in a bit. I’m here to take some food. Could you help me deliver it to the Grant Manor and Sands later?” Evelyn asked as she changed into a pair of shoes. She and Arthur used to be comrades in war with her grandmother. Al discovering that Marta was sick and needed her cooking, Evelyn couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Confused, Margaret asked, “Miss Grant, are you leaving again!”
Instead of the unsettled family, she answered, “Margaret, you can relax. It’s already 2:00 pm. It will take approximately 40 minutes to get to the hospital, so she would arrive just in time…”
She was taking medication for her dizziness, but its side effects were quite severe. She had recently begun experiencing intense dizziness after consuming it.
Taking a deep breath, she drove to the hospital. It had been a trying day for Evelyn: dealing with clients, references, and haters, always nagging Sophia about wearing skirts without tights during winter and even worrying about her grades.
Hienon, Sophie always relied on Evelyn whenever possible because Evelyn was always dependable. After all, Evelyn would never deny her whenever she needed her.
Margaret was about to head to the Grant Manor to send over the food when Sophia showed up in a good mood. Sophia was even humming as she mentioned, “Just give it to me. I’ll send it.”
Not thinking much about it, Margaret handed the food to Sophia since Sophia had to return to the Grant Manor anyway. The hospital Evelyn had chosen was the best private hospital in Clementon.
