Chapter 22
Evelyn and Sebastian were standing side by side, deeply engaged in conversation. Anyone could tell they were wearing matching scarves. What reason did a man and a woman have to wear matching scarves?
Lucas looked up, just in time to see Evelyn parting Sebastian’s hair. The two of them appeared to be close.
Sneering, Mason said, “I’ve underestimated her! She doesn’t have any real talents, but she’s great at seducing men.”
Frowning, Jason turned to look at Evelyn once more. Compared to how Evelyn glared at him with disgust and hatred, the look she gave Sebastian made her feelings for him clear.
“Wait a minute. How does she know Sebastian?” Mason asked in confusion.
Sebastian’s company, the Flying Seal Group, had only recently stabilized its growth in Clementon. However, he had a solid background, and his capabilities had placed him among the elite in the country. By all logic, someone like Evelyn wouldn’t have the opportunity to cross paths with Sebastian.
“Earth to Luran?” Mason turned to look at Lucas.
Lucas nonchalantly looked at the time, seeming unconcerned about what was happening on the other side of the parking lot. “I’ll send Tiffany home first.”
Tiffany seemed lost in thought. Lucas had brought her along to meet a few influential figures in the aerospace industry. And yet, Evelyn had appeared at their lunch. Evelyn’s involvement with Sebastian, and their seeing him with her by chance, suggested the possibility that everything that happened was deliberate.
“No wonder Mr. Hill refused to meet with me today,” she remarked.
Mason and Jason turned to look at her. “What do you mean?”
She explained calmly, “Everything makes sense if Evelyn and Mr. Hill are acquainted.”
“Did Evelyn bring her personal feelings into the mix?” Mason quickly guessed at what Tiffany was hinting at. “She hates you, so she decided to tell Sebastian some nonsense?”
“Is Sebastian the type to lose all rationality over a woman?” Jason asked.
Tiffany shook her head, saying, “It doesn’t matter. I’m sure I’ll be able to change his mind once he sees how capable I am.”
Mason gave her a thumbs-up, complimenting, “It’s amazing that you’re still able to stay calm and composed.”
Lucas remained quiet as he stared at Evelyn.
Sensing a sharp gaze on her, she refused to turn around. Despite knowing that he was staring at her, she did not care.
Sebastian had had a drink, and after arriving at his place, she watched as he waved and went up to the apartment with her scarf around his neck.
She didn’t say another word and drove back home. She found her new life to be freeing and relaxing.
At around 9:30 p.m., Lucas returned to their marital home. The housekeepers were still working and immediately rushed over to take his coat. “Mr. Grant, would you like me to fill up your bath?”
Lucas paused. Those were things that Evelyn usually did for him. “Yes.”
The housekeeper quickly made their way up the stairs. He went up as well, loosening his tie. Once he entered the bedroom, he proceeded to turn on the lights. It had been a few days since he had returned home.
The housekeeper was done filling the bathtub with water and was exiting the bathroom when he narrowed his eyes. Then, he asked, “Did she not come home today?”
Shocked, the housekeeper clarified, “Are you talking about Mrs. Grant? It has been a few days since she’s been home.”
Lucas immediately frowned as he took off his tie and walked toward Evelyn’s dressing table. “Since when did she stop coming home?”
He then took out his phone and planned to open his chat with Evelyn.
The housekeeper gave his question some thought before they answered, “She probably stopped coming home since last Tuesday.”
He lowered his gaze, trying to recall what had happened that day. In the end, he realized it was the day after he had celebrated Tanya’s birthday. Ever since that day, Evelyn had acted differently, almost as if she changed into a completely different person.
He stood there and thought for a while before he smirked. He clicked out of his chat with Evelyn, deciding not to ask her about it.
Once he entered the bathroom, he glanced at the bathtub filled with warm water. In the past, Evelyn would always add all kinds of things to his baths to calm him down. However, there were none of those things in his bath anymore.
He had little interest in having a warm bath when his phone suddenly vibrated. He looked at it and turned to head out.
The housekeeper asked, “Mr. Grant, are you planning to head out now?”
With his head lowered, Lucas replied to someone’s message. He then said, “Just checking out now. I won’t be staying here tonight.”
