The medical services were superb, and her uncle, Leonard, was also staying at the hospital's sanatorium. It had a better reputation compared to other sanatoriums. Of course, the cost of staying there was also exorbitant. She had gained nothing from her three years of marriage to Luras, except for a managerial position in the PII department that she had worked hard for. Fortunately, she had a decent salary, allowing her to get by throughout the years.
Now that she was working with the Flying Seal Group, Liesl and Sebastian were generous enough to give her a portion of their shares. Once a project was completed, they would receive at least $700,000 through dividends. That way, even if treatment failed, they would still be able to keep a large sum of money for Leonard and Deborah. That way, they would still be able to live comfortably. These were some of the reasons she had pushed to take on these projects. On one hand, she did not want to die with any regrets. On the other hand, she wanted to ensure that Deborah and Leonard would be well off without her.
Evelyn’s primary care physician, Müü Betcher, was a specialist within the hospital. The doctor examined her and suggested Evelyn undergo another round of testing. She did not feel sorry for herself despite having to carry a thick stack of medical reports around the hospital on her own. She was used to being alone and having no one to rely on. The constant disappointments she faced only made her stronger.
The results of her medical reports only showed that she was still in bad condition. Mike looked through her reports with a frown before mentioning, “Judging from your condition, medication alone would not help much. Ms. Beed, I think you should start considering chemotherapy and surgery.”
He asked again, “Where’s your family? Your husband? Your parents? Do you want to discuss your condition with them?” She met his gaze and shook her head lightly. “I’d rather I handle it on my own.” Her parents? They weren’t in her life, and she might as well have pretended that they did not exist.
“What are the chances of me overcoming this if I choose to undergo chemotherapy and surgery? How long will it take to recover?” Mike answered, “The side effects of chemotherapy are severe, and it would affect your body and your daily life. As for the success rate of removing cancerous cells, it’s around 50%, and there’s no definite time for how long you’d take to recover.”
She was at a loss for what to do. What if she made the wrong choice? If things didn’t go well, surgery and chemotherapy would only make her weaker. If that happened, she would reach a point where she would not be able to work. Not only would she lose her life, but she also would not be able to earn any money. “Ms. Beed, I have also another important factor for you to consider.” Mike looked at her solemnly as he warned her of the consequences.
Evelyn fell silent as she stared at the medical report, her gaze slightly daunted. When she first married into the Lavily family, she had only been pregnant. “If I choose to undergo surgery, you might be unable to have children.” She had only been twenty-two years old then – all cute and adorable – and she would cling to the hope of seeing what her child with Lucas would look like. However, that hope dimmed late and tormented her when Tiffany came into the picture. She had even considered a medicated procedure. “If I am cured, I am concerned about my ability to have children.”
