Chapter 86
It was the third day. Christopher's frustration mounted as the workday ended. He snapped at Sheldon, "When are you going to find Melody? Can you work a little faster?"
Sheldon, equally helpless in his search, suggested, "Mr. Fuller, perhaps you could use your personal contacts to find her new number? It's private information, so I can't access it."
This sparked an idea. Christopher immediately contacted people at telecommunications companies, attempting to obtain database records. However, even with his connections, he couldn't reach the upper management at the publicly owned company. Hours passed without success, leaving him in despair. What else could he do? How could he find Melody?
It was past 11:00 PM, and he was still at the office. He suddenly remembered Daniel. Daniel's intervention might secure Melody's number from the telecommunications company. He quickly called the Fuller residence.
The landline rang unanswered. Frantic, Christopher paced the office. After repeated calls, the phone was finally picked up after several minutes of incessant ringing. "Mr. Fuller? What brings you to call so late?" Larry asked.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake Grandpa. I need his help with something important," Christopher said urgently.
Larry responded, "Alright. Tell me now, and I'll inform Mr. Fuller Senior tomorrow." Christopher couldn't wait. Glancing at the clock—11:30 PM—he said, "Alright. Please tell Grandpa as soon as you can tomorrow."
He explained Melody's disappearance, his inability to contact her for three days, and his need for Daniel's help to find her new number. Larry's surprised reply stopped him short: "Mrs. Fuller ran away? Didn't she divorce you?"
Christopher froze. "Who said we divorced? How could she divorce me?" Was Larry half-asleep? They weren't divorced!
Larry, slightly confused, replied, "But Mr. Fuller Senior received divorce papers from Mrs. Fuller earlier. You two are already divorced."
Christopher felt his blood run cold. His mind went blank. Melody had sent divorce papers to the Fuller residence? No. That was impossible.
"That's a fake! A copy! Melody's playing a prank!" Christopher yelled. "I can't believe she'd do this, let alone show it to Grandpa! Has she gone crazy?"
He fumed. Melody was recklessly trying to deceive Daniel with a forged document, unaware of the potential consequences of actually being divorced from the Fuller family. Her deceit and recklessness enraged him.
"It's not a copy. It's the original, with your signature," Larry stated.
Christopher felt a wave of disbelief wash over him. He was speechless, eyes wide with shock.
