Chapter 271: No Room for Reconciliation

Jonathan had never expected to take over the Wynn family without a fight. For daysโ€”long before the partyโ€”heโ€™d been preparing. Quietly, thoroughly. But he wasnโ€™t ready to play all his cards just yet. Now, it was up to the Wynn family to make their move.

Still, there were people he wasnโ€™t planning to forgive. The Zach family, for oneโ€”the same Zach family that Susie came from.

โ€œYou sure about this?โ€ Mateo asked quietly.

Going after the Zachs meant there was no coming back. Once he made that move, there would be no more pretendingโ€”heโ€™d officially burned that bridge with Susie.

โ€œI shouldโ€™ve done this a long time ago.โ€

Heโ€™d spent years away from the Capital, avoiding the filth. But now, they wouldnโ€™t stop showing up. And he was done pretending to tolerate them.

Though he hadnโ€™t always been around, his ties with his closest friends never faded. Their bond wasnโ€™t just built on childhood friendshipโ€”it was business too. Deep, serious business.

The moment he said the words, they all understoodโ€”there was no turning back.

โ€œAlright then,โ€ one of them said. โ€œLetโ€™s start with the Zachs.โ€

They sat around, going over their plan. When Jonathan checked the time, he stood up. โ€œIโ€™ve got to go. I need to make dinner.โ€

And just like that, he grabbed his jacket and walked out, giving no one a chance to stop him.

โ€œAsshole,โ€ Mateo said flatly. โ€œUse us and leave. Typical.โ€

โ€œIs no one going to talk about how he said heโ€™s going home to cook?โ€ Draven blinked. โ€œThatโ€™s boyfriend material right there. Iโ€™m asking her next time how she tamed a wild dog into a domestic house pet.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m recording this,โ€ Mateo grinned. โ€œNext time Jonathan gets cocky, Iโ€™m playing it for him.โ€

The jokes faded into something heavier.

โ€œItโ€™s only going to get worse from here,โ€ Maddox finally said. โ€œHis relationship with his fatherโ€™s about to hit rock bottom. I actually think Susieโ€™s always been pretty low-key. And Jose, that kidโ€™s always been politeโ€”โ€ He thought about how every time he saw them, Jose was always so warm and enthusiastic, and let out a small sigh.

โ€œDonโ€™t say that in front of Jonathan,โ€ Stone warned.

โ€œIโ€™m not stupid,โ€ Maddox muttered, rubbing his temples. โ€œI know what side Iโ€™m on. I just think itโ€™s a shame. Joseโ€™sโ€ฆ not a bad kid. If only Jonathan could see that.โ€

Draven leaned forward. โ€œYeah, well. Thatโ€™s never gonna happen.โ€

Because unless his mother came back from the dead, there was no forgiveness to be found.

Back at Sierraโ€™s apartment, she was about to run into Jose. When the doorbell rang, she assumed it was Huang Yao. Instead, it was someone she never expectedโ€”one of the classmates sheโ€™d bumped into a few times.

She didnโ€™t open the door. Instead, she spoke into the intercom, calm and sharp.

โ€œHowโ€™d you find me? Who are you really?โ€

โ€œMy nameโ€™s Jose,โ€ the boy said. โ€œIโ€™mโ€ฆ Jonathanโ€™s half-brother. Can I talk to you for a minute?โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t want anything to happen to him, do you?โ€

That got her attention. She opened the door, face cold. โ€œIs that a threat?โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ Jose shook his head quickly. โ€œCan I come in?โ€

Sierraโ€™s response was to shut the door halfway.

โ€œLetโ€™s talk outside.โ€

She gave him a long look. โ€œHe doesnโ€™t like strangers in his space.โ€

Jose smiled faintlyโ€”bitter, almostโ€”and followed her to a cafรฉ outside the complex.

โ€œWhat exactly did you mean earlier?โ€ she asked once they sat. โ€œWas that your idea of declaring war?โ€

Sheโ€™d had a decent impression of him before. The kind of kid who paid attention, who always seemed genuine. But now that she knew who he really was? That good impression was gone.

He had a familyโ€”parents who loved him. And Jonathan? He had no one. His mother, the only person who had ever truly cared for him, was gone. His father had chosen another woman, another child, and left Jonathan to grow up alone.

Sierraโ€™s tone was sharp, her expression unreadable. All of her walls were up.

Jose looked genuinely hurt.

โ€œIโ€™m not here to start a war,โ€ he said quietly. โ€œAnd Iโ€™ve never wanted to fight him. Neither has my mother. But heโ€™s never believed us. I came here because I thoughtโ€ฆ Maybe you could help me talk to him.โ€

He hesitated, then added with an almost embarrassed smile, โ€œIโ€™ve always looked up to him. Honestlyโ€ฆ I think itโ€™s cool having a big brother like him. Iโ€™m studying biochem too, you know? Because of him. Heโ€™sโ€ฆ amazing.โ€

The admiration in his voice caught Sierra off guard. She didnโ€™t expect that.

She stared at him, then finally said, โ€œHeโ€™ll never accept you.โ€

Jose nodded, like heโ€™d expected it. โ€œI know. Butโ€ฆ Can you tell him something for me?โ€

She raised an eyebrow.

โ€œIf heโ€™s willing to come back to the familyโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll leave.โ€

Sierraโ€™s eyes narrowed.

โ€œYouโ€™re saying youโ€™ll step aside?โ€

Jose met her gaze and nodded once. โ€œIf thatโ€™s what it takes.โ€
