Chapter 748 Mindyโ€™s Counterattack

Wandaโ€™s face stiffened as she listened to Wyatt and the woman on the phone exchange words, completely ignoring her. At last, she could no longer keep up appearances. Snatching her bag in anger, she stormed out of the private room.

The moment she stepped outside, she nearly collided with a child.

The little girl, four or five years old, round-cheeked with a tiny bun and soft curls at her temples, held a cup of yogurt in both hands. She skidded to a stop just in time, clutching her snack protectively as Wanda came barreling out.

Wanda frownedโ€“then her eyes caught the details: the girlโ€™s โ€œplainโ€ clothes were actually the most exclusive childrenโ€™s fashion, and on her wrist gleamed a limited-edition watch sheโ€™d once seen in a magazineโ€“only ten existed in the world.

And the way the girl had been runningโ€“straight toward Wyattโ€™s private room.

Not far away, Wyattโ€™s chief bodyguard stood watch, casually holding a backpack in one hand and a toy figure in the other.

A light went on in Wandaโ€™s mind. This child was definitely connected to Wyatt. But she couldnโ€™t possibly be his daughter.

Rumors five years back had claimed Wyattโ€™s ex-wife bore a son, but Wyatt had driven her away in fury for scheming to keep his child. Since then, heโ€™d remained alone. If he didnโ€™t even want a son, how could this girl belong to him? More likely a relativeโ€™s child.

Stillโ€“if she could use the girl to get closer to Wyattโ€ฆ

Mindy was studying her in return. Her innocent eyes lingered on Wandaโ€™s chest before she piped up sweetly, โ€œAre you really poor? Thatโ€™s so sadโ€ฆโ€

Wanda blinked, thrown.

Mindy pointed straight at her neckline. โ€œYour mom and dad canโ€™t even buy you proper clothes? Even your grandpaโ€™s wife is sticking out.โ€

Wanda nearly choked, rolling her eyes. Pretty face, she thought, but clearly brainless.

Then she rememberedโ€“this was Wyattโ€™s relative. She swallowed her irritation and bent down with a false smile. โ€œLittle one, thereโ€™s a very fierce man in that room. He wonโ€™t yell at a beautiful lady like me, but if you go in, heโ€™ll throw you out. Youโ€™d better leave.โ€

Mindy gave her an up-and-down look. Sheโ€™d already pegged Wanda as bad news the second she saw her storming out.

She clutched her yogurt and dashed toward the private room. โ€œI donโ€™t believe you! Mr. Wyatt loves me bestโ€“heโ€™d never scold me.โ€

Wanda grabbed her arm sharply. โ€œWaitโ€”you called him Mr. Wyatt?โ€

Her eyes gleamed, but she schooled her expression into worry. โ€œOh, so you are precious to him. No wonder youโ€™re so sure. But sadly, your place isnโ€™t safe anymore.โ€

Mindy blinked, baffled.

Wanda leaned closer, voice syrupy and coaxing. โ€œI just saw your Mr. Wyatt being very close with another lady. You know what that means? If he has a new girlfriend, heโ€™ll give her everything, and youโ€™ll have nothing. Sheโ€™ll hate you and push you out.โ€

Mindy tilted her head, blinking her big eyes. โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€

Wanda smiled softly, confident she had the child hooked. โ€œIt means he wonโ€™t play with you anymore. He wonโ€™t buy you toys. Theyโ€™ll have a new baby, and he wonโ€™t like you at all.โ€

She studied Mindyโ€™s face, waiting for panic, tearsโ€“something.

But the little girl only smiled, sweet and guileless. โ€œThanks, but thatโ€™s impossible.โ€

Wanda froze, then smirked inwardly. Denial. The child just couldnโ€™t face reality.

She pressed harder. โ€œSilly girl, thatโ€™s exactly how men are. New lady, no more baby. You see, he didnโ€™t even bring you with himโ€”heโ€™s out on a date.โ€

Mindy frowned thoughtfully, then suddenly pointed behind Wanda. โ€œYour dress has a dirty spot back there.โ€

Wanda gasped, spinning around in alarm. โ€œWhere? Where is it?โ€

She was wearing this seasonโ€™s newest design, and today of all days, she couldnโ€™t afford a flaw.

โ€œA little lower,โ€ Mindy said innocently, hand liftingโ€“yogurt cup in tow.

A โ€œslipโ€ of her wrist sent the pink yogurt splashing perfectly across Wandaโ€™s expensive dress.

โ€œMy dress!โ€ Wanda shrieked, stumbling back. Her heel caught in the carpet, pitching her into the trash bin with a graceless crash.

Mindy scampered forward, wide-eyed and trembling. โ€œIโ€™m sorry! I didnโ€™t mean it! Iโ€™ll help you wipe itโ€ฆโ€
