Chapter 747 A Call Interrupted

A thick stack of documents hit the desk with a heavy thud.

Yunice exhaled sharply, pressing her fingers against her temples before sinking into her chair.

In the five years since its founding, Saunderss Hospital had expanded beyond what its aging campus could hold. Patient numbers grew by the day, and space was no longer enough.

A year ago sheโ€™d begun planning for expansion. Wyatt had secured the permits, and the project had gone to bid.

Naturally, Wyatt insisted on keeping it โ€œin the family,โ€ throwing the full weight of Cooper Corp behind the tender and winning the contract outright.

Thanks to that bid, he now found excuses to call her ten times a day under the guise of โ€œcoordination.โ€ Maddening.

And right on cueโ€”just as she finished one urgent matter and took a breathโ€”her phone buzzed with his video call.

In a private room of a luxury restaurant, chandeliers glittered overhead.

Wyatt sat sharp in his tailored suit, a fresh contract waiting unsigned before him. He didnโ€™t glance at it.

โ€œYour daughter was furious today,โ€ he confessed into the phone. โ€œSaid her mom only cares about work. I tried for two hours to calm her down and failed.โ€

On the other end, Yunice drew a heavy breath. โ€œWyatt. Since lunch, Iโ€™ve only been gone hours. Is Mindy really that clingyโ€”or is Mr. Wyatt the clingy one?โ€

โ€œFine. Itโ€™s me. I missed you,โ€ he said, lips quirking, ignoring the three department managers standing by with papers in hand.

Yunice, unaware of his audience, signed her own stack of documents. โ€œEvery time you claim itโ€™s about Mindy, but the camera always points at you.โ€

โ€œMindyโ€™s with Jordan in class,โ€ Wyatt admitted. โ€œSheโ€™ll want you the moment sheโ€™s out.โ€

Yunice frowned, checking the time. โ€œIโ€™ve got surgery this afternoon. I probably canโ€™t take her call.โ€

โ€œIโ€™llโ€“โ€ Wyatt began, only to be cut off by a syrupy voice.

โ€œMr. Wyatt, what a surprise to meet you here.โ€

Wanda stood at his table in a clinging red dress, perfume so heavy it could choke a horse. A representative from Lindt Corp, sheโ€™d been orchestrating โ€œcoincidencesโ€ for weeks, angling for his attention.

Wyattโ€™s brow furrowed. Into the phone he murmured, โ€œHold onโ€”someoneโ€™s interrupting.โ€

But instead of hanging up, he set the phone on the table deliberately and leveled a cold stare at her. โ€œDo you not understand that entering a private space requires consent?โ€

Wanda feigned ignorance, sliding into a chair across from him. โ€œSir, about our proposalโ€”I think we should talk further.โ€

She leaned forward, neckline plunging.

โ€œI donโ€™t see the need,โ€ Wyatt said flatly. โ€œYour managerโ€™s conduct already disqualified you.โ€

โ€œOh, business is like romance,โ€ Wanda purred. โ€œYou only think poorly of me because you donโ€™t know me yet. Once you do, youโ€™ll savor how delightful I can be.โ€ Her fingernails tapped the table suggestively. โ€œMen like youโ€”so successfulโ€”shouldnโ€™t you indulge a little to match your brilliance?โ€

On the other end, Yuniceโ€™s eyes chilled. It wasnโ€™t the first woman to angle for Wyatt, but it was the first time sheโ€™d heard one in real time.

Ever since their divorce, Wyattโ€™s golden bachelor status had turned him into prey. Men and women alike swarmed him, hoping to occupy the void Yunice had left.

Wanda smiled, lowering her voice. โ€œI just admire your powerโ€ฆ and your charm.โ€

She reached toward his hand.

And then came Yuniceโ€™s voice, low and cutting, through the speaker: โ€œWyatt, if you wonโ€™t slap her, should I come do it myself?โ€

Wanda jolted, finally realizing the phone call was still live.

Wyatt arched a brow, satisfied. At last he raised his gaze, his eyes like blades. โ€œWanda, did you hear that? I already have someone. And as of now, Cooper Corp will never work with Lindt Corp again. Donโ€™t appear before me again.โ€

Wandaโ€™s face stiffened. She grabbed her bag, forcing a smile. โ€œBut Mr. Wyatt, arenโ€™t you divorced? Then the woman on the phoneโ€“โ€

She tried to probe, to see if this was some new lover.

Wyatt ignored her completely, turning back to his phone, his voice softening. โ€œDonโ€™t be mad. From now on, no more meetings with female clients. Thatโ€™s my rule.โ€

Yunice snorted. โ€œDonโ€™t pin me with that kind of reputation. But since youโ€™re a free man, you should enjoy life.โ€

Wyatt chuckled. โ€œReally angry? Then Iโ€™ll reflect on my mistakes.โ€

โ€œJust donโ€™t come to my house to reflect,โ€ Yunice shot back.
