Chapter 749 Reflecting on Nails
Her little hand once again โaccidentallyโ pressed against the yogurt stain, smearing it into an even larger patch.
The commotion finally caught the attention of the people nearby. Scarface rushed forward in a single stride, helping Mindy up. โAre you alright?โ
At that moment, Wyatt came out of the private room at the sound. The instant he saw Mindyโs reddened eyes, he crouched down and pulled the little one into his arms. โBaby, what happened?โ
Mindy clung to Wyattโs neck, burying her small face in his shoulder. Her voice was pitiful yet loud enough for everyone to hear. โMr. Wyatt, this lady said youโre someone elseโs dad, that you have another puppy outside and wonโt love me anymoreโฆ I got scared and spilled the yogurt by accidentโฆโ
Wanda, who had just struggled to her feet, froze pale at the childโs words. โNโno, Mr. Wyatt, I was justโฆ I was just joking with the childโฆโ
Wyattโs gaze turned sharp, slicing through the air like a blade as it swept over Wanda. โA joke?โ
He patted Mindyโs back lightly, his voice low and dangerous. โTelling my daughter that if I get a girlfriend, I wonโt want her anymore? Ms. Wanda, do you find that joke amusing?โ
โYourโฆ your daughter?โ Wanda looked as if she had been struck by lightning. โBut isnโt it said outside that you have a son?โ
The bystandersโboth staff and customersโhad already begun whispering.
โWho is this woman, saying such cruel things to a child?โ
โLook at her all dressed up, but her heart is rotten!โ
Wanda stood there with the pink yogurt stain glaring on her dress, her hair disheveled from the fall. Under the pointing fingers and whispered condemnation, she wished she could disappear.
Wyatt said coldly, โYes, itโs a secret. I wasnโt planning on letting anyone know, but today you got lucky and happened to meet Mindy.โ
Nestled in Wyattโs arms, Mindy watched Wandaโs smug expression as he spoke. She silently shook her head. What a foolish lady.
If she had admitted her mistake right away and left, maybe Daddy would have let her, she just had to know this secret. Now, even Daddy couldnโt save her.
Sure enough, the next second, Wanda was still grinning when Scarface clamped a hand over her mouth and dragged her out with force.
Wyatt turned, shielding Mindy from the scene. His voice softened. โBaby, do you want some ice cream?โ
Mindyโs eyes instantly went wide, her little head nodding like a pecking chick.
Wyatt carried her into the restaurant and ordered her favorite strawberry ice cream.
In the corner of the high-end restaurant, Wyattโs own ice cream had melted into a puddle. He sighed heavily, glancing at his phone for the fifth timeโstill no reply from Yunice.
Across from him, Mindy sat in a childโs chair, battling a mountain of strawberry ice cream with her silver spoon, her cheeks flushed and puffed.
โMindy,โ Wyatt suddenly leaned closer, his expression grave. โIโve got big trouble.โ
Mindy instantly guarded her ice cream cup with both arms. โYou canโt take mine!โ
โNot the ice cream,โ he lowered his voice. โMommyโs angry. I need help.โ
He slid over an extra chocolate-dipped cone as โpaymentโ.
The little girl licked the cone, her eyes rolling mischievously. โBecause of the bad lady just now?โ
Wyatt gave a sullen grunt of acknowledgment.
Mindy shook her head like a little adult. โDaddy, youโre silly! You need to give her flowers!โ She held out a hand smeared with chocolate sauce. โAnd take me and Mommy to Disney!โ
Wyatt hurriedly grabbed a wet wipe to clean her hand. โThose are already arranged. Anythingโฆ more special?โ
Mindy suddenly crooked her finger mysteriously. Wyatt bent down, playing along.
โDaddy, beat your chest like a gorilla!โ Her eyes sparkled. โMommy laughed forever when she saw that in a cartoon!โ
Wyattโs expression cracked. โโฆCan we try something else?โ
โThen jump in muddy puddles like Peppa Pig?โ
โOr wear a dress and sing Let It Go?โ
Wyatt swallowed hard, his mind flashing with the image of himself in a blue sequined dress, pounding his chest while singing Let It Go. He realized there was a difference between making Yunice furious and making her sick to her stomach.
โBaby,โ he patted his daughterโs head heavily, โthank you for your suggestions. Daddy should just go home and reflect.โ
When Yunice pushed open the front door, a faint scent of durian mingled with the cool air conditioning greeted her.
She rubbed the ache in her neck after a string of surgeries. Before she could even change her shoes, the sight in the living room froze her in place.
On the expensive marble floor sat a bed of nails.
And the man who, in the mall, had been decisive and fearsome, the one everyone looked up to with aweโWyattโwas sitting upright upon it, perfectly dressed in his suit, his expression solemn, reflecting.
