Chapter 727 Bargaining for Survival
Nora didnโt understand what was happening, but her face went ghostly pale as she stared at the two calm figures before her.
Neither of them was human in her eyes. Whatever torment they used wouldnโt be ordinary.
She trembled, terrified that once they were done with Paul, it would be her turn.
Her voice cracked. โWhat did you do to himโฆโ
Yunice replied with deliberate slowness. โThose two bottles I just had poured on him? One was itching powder. The other was fiberglass.โ
โItching powder makes you itch when you stay still. Fiberglass makes you hurt when you move.โ
โSo no matter what, he suffers. Thereโs no relief. Itโs like being eaten alive by a swarm of insects, gnawing at your flesh and bones.โ
โAnd thereโs no antidote. Even if he begged, I couldnโt help him now.โ
Her gaze shifted to Nora. โThey say you donโt feel pain unless the knife cuts into your own flesh. Want to see what Paulโs going through yourself?โ
Nora shook, biting her lip until it nearly bled, then spat out, โYouโre no better than us!โ
Yunice spread her hands with a mocking smile. โI never claimed to be a saint. Thatโs what you wanted to believe. You thought I was easy prey, so you came after me. If you misjudged, that just means youโre not as sharp as you thought.โ
Nora flushed crimson. She was a proud woman, one who always had to win. But Yunice outclassed her in everything.
Yunice leaned back in her chair, voice cool. โSo youโre both still planning to keep your mouths shut?โ
Wyatt added lazily, โMaybe we should just let the dogs loose.โ
Yuniceโs lips curved. โYou raised those dogs. You really want them eating garbage? Wonโt that upset their stomachs?โ
โWatch your mouth! Whoโs garbage?โ Nora exploded, her pride lashing out. โI lost to Wyatt, not to you! You swayed your hips in a short skirt, climbed your way up by licking menโs bootsโacting high and mighty now just makes me sick!โ
Wyattโs eyes went cold. His voice was a low growl. "Even if you stripped naked and wagged yourself in front of me, I wouldnโt look at you once!"
โYouโve got eyes, donโt you? Canโt you see? Iโm the one licking her. You think itโs the other way around?โ
Nora froze. The untamable Wyatt a sycophant?
Paulโs voice broke into a scream. โI canโt take itโI canโt take it anymore! Iโll tell the truth, Iโll tell everything! Just give me the antidote!โ
Nora snapped at him. โIdiot! Didnโt you hear her? There is no antidote!โ
But Paul was beyond reason. His body shook violently, his face contorted. The sensation was unbearableโitching and pain all at once, like a hundred thousand insects were devouring him from the inside out. He couldnโt fight it, couldnโt touch it, couldnโt ease it.
He shouted hoarsely, โI crawled out through a hole! Thatโs how I escaped!โ
A hole?
Paul gasped. โThe Johnsons have a doggy hole. I once forced Morgan through it. Only he and I knowโฆโ
At that, Noraโs eyes turned bloodshot, burning with fury, as if she wanted to tear him apart with her own hands.
Her brother had endured endless humiliation under Paul.
Paul screamed again. โI can tell you things about Nora too! Just give me the antidote!โ
Yuniceโs tone was calm, almost bored. โShut him up.โ
Paulโs eyes bulged wide in terror, but Scar had already pressed tape hard over his mouth, sealing his cries into muffled whimpers.
Yunice turned her gaze to Nora. โYouโve been hiding with him all this time. Havenโt you been following the news? My brother Oscar has been exonerated. The court and the police now agree your brother Morgan is the real murderer.โ
โMorganโs crimes were brutal, and his cover-up too deliberate. Those arenโt the actions of a mentally ill man. And Shane and Mary have already withdrawn his medical proof of insanity. That means Morgan will be sentenced to death.โ
Noraโs whole body went rigid.
Her eyes burned as she shouted, โYou forced him into this! Youโre the ones who want Yuyang dead!โ
โWrong," Yunice lifted her chin. โShane and Mary simply chose what was best for themselves. You were once the discarded piece. Now Morgan is too. Both of you have been abandoned by the Johnson family.โ
Noraโs voice trembled with rage. โElsie never died! My brother didnโt kill anyone!โ
โDo you have proof sheโs alive?โ
Nora opened her mouth. The words almost slipped outโElsie was still in the psychiatric ward, alive, her existence the only evidence that could clear Morgan.
But then she remembered. Elsie had traded identities with Yunice. Any genetic test tied to her would no longer matter.
Her shoulders sagged, her spirit collapsing. โIโll trade. I want my brother to live.โ
