Chapter 728 A Single Chance
Yunice said evenly, โThat depends on what you say.โ
Nora clenched the bracelet around her bound wrists, her voice deflating as she spoke. โMy brother only meant to choke Elsie unconscious. He lost control, but she wasnโt dead. He was furious and called Paul, wanting Paul to take the blame. He never expected Paul to go furtherโPaul slit Elsieโs wrist, letting her bleed out. Then he used a video to lure Oscar into the scene, making Oscar the scapegoat for both of them. Elsie didnโt die by my brotherโs hand. She bled to death because of Paul.โ
Yunice asked calmly, โAnd what was in the video Paul sent to Oscar?โ
Noraโs face went rigid. She didnโt answer.
Wyatt gave a quiet cough, leaned close to Yunice, and murmured, โIt was a video of Morgan and Nora together.โ
Yuniceโs eyes widened, stunned. They were brother and sister.
Nora realized there was nothing left to hide. With a bitter laugh, she admitted, โWe werenโt perverts. Weโd never do that willingly. Paul drugged us, locked us in the same room with no way to call for help. He set up a camera in the shadows, recorded our most humiliating moment. I can still hear his disgusting laughterโlike we were animals in a cage for him to abuse. He sent that video first to my father and grandmother. Iโll never forget their faces after watching it. My grandmother slapped me so hard I collapsed, screaming that I was nothing but trash, accusing me of seducing Morgan, corrupting him, giving Paul leverage. The Johnsons never avenged me. They didnโt even care. Instead, they gave Paul everything he wanted and blamed me. My ear was nearly deafened from that blow. And Morganโhe tried to fight for me, tried to kill Paul with a knife more than once. But every time he acted out, they used me as a threat to keep him in line. For my sake, he grew more numb, more twisted.โ
Her eyes burned. โAnd still you torment him! Havenโt you done enough?โ
Yuniceโs tone was ice. โIf you call him suffering, what about the women he tortured? Theyโd never agree with you.โ
Nora let out a harsh laugh. โMorgan paid them, didnโt he? They took the money. They were willing to do anything for it. He was helping them.โ
Yuniceโs voice cut like steel. โYouโre just as warped as he is.โ
Nora snapped, โItโs all because of you! You were engaged to Paulโwhy didnโt you give in? If you hadnโt, Paul wouldnโt have used me to vent his rage! Morgan and I wouldnโt have been dragged down for life!โ
Yunice looked her in the eye. โSo youโve pinned every mistake on me. Then tell meโwhat is Paul to you? Enemy, or ally?โ
Nora froze, panic flickering in her eyes.
Yunice pressed. โSee? Even you know youโve mistaken your enemy for a friend. Blaming me is just your way of running from reality. But did I ever wrong you? Think about it. When you were feigning unconsciousness, before you ever woke up, you and I had never even met. You and your family couldnโt bare your teeth at the one who actually hurt you, so you vented on the innocent instead.โ
Then she turned her gaze toward Scar. โLet her go.โ
Scar obeyed, slicing through the ropes at Noraโs wrists.
โNow give her your knife.โ
Scar hesitated, then obeyed again, tossing the blade at Noraโs feet.
Nora rubbed her wrists, stiff from being tied too long. She instinctively touched the old bracelet at her wristโthe one Morgan had given her, her most precious keepsake.
The knife scraped across the concrete floor with a metallic clang. Noraโs brows knit together, then she snatched it up, gripping it tightly as if it were the only weapon left in her world.
Yunice studied her with a trace of admiration. She had grit. She refused to bow her head. As long as there was even the faintest chance, she would seize it.
But that tenacity was twisted in the wrong direction. That meant she was doomed to fail.
Yunice spoke clearly. โNow youโre free to move. Your chance at revenge is right in front of you. What you do next is your choice.โ
Her tone cooled even further. โBut rememberโthis chance comes only once.โ
Noraโs eyes flicked wildly, like a cornered animal, her mind racing. She was free, but escape was impossible. She had a knife, but she could never beat Scar, and in front of Wyatt there was no way to touch Yunice.
The only one within her reach was Paul, trussed up like an offering.
She hissed at Yunice, โYou want us to kill each other?โ
