Chapter 598 Cracks Beneath the Surface
Noraโs words might have sounded delusional at first, but the more they thought about it, the more sense they seemed to make.
After all, wasnโt that how dramas always played out? The emotionally constipated male lead would use some side character to provoke the heroine โ make her jealous, make her suffer โ and in the end, heโd always return to her arms.
And if Nora were the heroine, then Yunice was just a temporary obstacle.
With that possibility in mind, their old social circle began playing both sides again. No one wanted to burn a bridge โ just in case Wyatt did a dramatic reversal someday.
In fact, Wyattโs so-called public declaration only made them treat Nora with more courtesy than before.
Of course, Wyatt had no idea this was happening. And Nora had no clue that moments after she liked his postโฆ he had already deleted her from his contacts.
Upstairs, Yunice had already finished packing her suitcase by the time Wyatt came in.
After all the fuss, sheโd calmed down.
Seeing him walk in, she took the initiative to speak. โIโm reporting to campus tomorrow. Freya said sheโd drive me.โ
Wyattโs face immediately darkened. โYouโre going off to school, and Iโm not even allowed to take you?โ This time, Yunice didnโt argue. Her voice was calm. โI have a lot to carry, and Iโll be living in the womenโs dorms. Even if you came with me, you wouldnโt be able to carry my things in.โ
Then she added, โAnd because of what happened back when I took the SATS, people already donโt like me. I donโt want photos floating around that make it look like I got into school through special connections.โ
Wyattโs face was stone cold again. It looked like he could kill with a glance.
Yunice paused as she packed, then decided to sweeten things a little. Slapping him with reality was one thing โ but you had to offer a bit of honey, too. Otherwise, he might really blow up.
She hesitated, then said, โThereโs a shopping district behind the medical school. If youโre free sometime, you could come walk around with me.โ
Wyatt raised an eyebrow. The corner of his mouth lifted.
Yunice stuffed the last shirt into her suitcase and zipped it closed.
Maybe handling Wyatt wasnโt so hard after allโฆ
Meanwhile, Owen was still tearing his hair out over Timothy.
Timothy had fully moved in and refused to leave. Lily was so terrified she was living out of a hotel. Even worse, the old creep kept trying to spy on Peggy when she showered, making her scream and throw things at him.
But the guy didnโt scare easily. He was more aggressive than Peggy โ he wasnโt even afraid to hit her back.
People say a reckless brute will beat a brute, and a lunatic beats them all. Peggy thought sheโd seen it all; turns out sheโd underestimated the chaos.
Furious, she went to Owen to demand he call the police.
Instead, Owen blew up at her. If she dared involve the police, he warned, she could forget about touching another cent of the Saunders familyโs money. Heโd divorce her on the spot and wouldnโt spare a dime.
Peggy was stunned. She hadnโt expected Owen to side with some filthy old man over her.
She snapped. โYou disgusting bastard! Youโre not protecting that pervert โ youโre just afraid the cops will blow up Elsieโs fake identity and expose the fake legal documents you signed!โ
Owen froze. โHow do you know that?โ
Peggy smirked. โI know more than that. I know you sold Saunders Hospital and this house for 30 billion.โ
Owen looked like heโd seen a ghost. He lunged and clapped a hand over Peggyโs mouth, terrified Timothy might hear through the door.
His voice was low and panicked. โYou went through my safe?โ
He kept all his sensitive documents in the study. The only way Peggy couldโve known was if sheโd looked.
Peggy sneered. Thank Yunice for that. Sheโd gone looking for the will โ but found something even juicier: the sale contracts.
That was how she learned that the house she lived in and everything the Saunders family ownedโฆ no longer belonged to them.
Now it was all under Owenโs name. The house and business were just empty shells.
Peggy grinned coldly. โHalf of that 30 billion is mine. And if you donโt get rid of that disgusting old man, Iโll make sure he gets a cut of it.โ
Owen was livid. How could he have been so unlucky โ why did Peggy have to find out?
He clutched his head, spiraling, nearly losing it.
But eventually he forced himself to think. One step at a time.
Then he turned back and tried to placate her. โHoney, I wasnโt trying to hide it from you. I was trying to protect us from that leech. Weโre on the same team now. Just pretend you donโt know anything for now. Iโll get rid of Timothy โ I swear.โ
