Chapter 599 The Final Straw

Peggy looked stunned. Owenโ€”who had always treated her with disdainโ€”was actually calling her wife? Heh. That meant he was really out of options.

When she stopped yelling, Owen lowered his voice. "This is about both of us. If we donโ€™t deal with Timothy, Iโ€™ll be the one locked up. Then how are you going to get a piece of my assets?"

He softened his tone. "Keep an eye on him for me. Iโ€™ll go figure out how to get rid of him."

Peggy didnโ€™t reply. She knew Owen was just trying to sweet-talk her, but right now, their best chance was to team up and get rid of Timothy first.

Owen slipped out through the window so as not to alert Timothy. Using the contact Yunice had given him, he found the real estate agent who had handled Timothyโ€™s property.

โ€œThat house? It was bought four years ago,โ€ the agent said.

Owen blinked. โ€œThatโ€™s impossible. He didnโ€™t have any money.โ€

The agent shrugged. โ€œThatโ€™s what everyone thinks. He didnโ€™t have money then, doesnโ€™t have money now. You think he bought a Silverburgh property and registered a household all on his own? Noโ€”he had a very capable daughter.โ€

Owen felt a chill rush through his spine. His voice trembled. โ€œโ€ฆWhat daughter?โ€

โ€œTimothyโ€™s daughter. She came with him, paid for the place, even pulled strings to get the paperwork done.โ€

Owenโ€™s whole body started shaking. โ€œWhat did she look like?โ€

โ€œPretty,โ€ the agent replied. โ€œWore all designer brands, petite, slim. Said she had a hospital director brother and a rich boyfriend. She didnโ€™t hold back on spending.โ€

A crash echoed inside Owenโ€™s head. He nearly lost his balance.

No. It couldnโ€™t beโ€ฆ

He pulled up a photo of Elsie on his phone and shoved it at the agent. โ€œWas it her?โ€

The agent took a quick glance. โ€œYeah, thatโ€™s her.โ€

Before he could say another word, Owen had grabbed him by the collar and nearly lifted him off the floor.

โ€œYouโ€™re working with Yunice! Youโ€™re lying to me!โ€ he roared.

The agent panicked. โ€œAre you nuts?! Security! Get this lunatic out of here!โ€

The security team and manager came running. Owen switched targets and grabbed the manager, demanding to see footage from four years ago.

โ€œWe donโ€™t have that,โ€ the manager said.

Owen threw a wad of cash in his face. โ€œCut the crap. I know you have an internal archive system!โ€

The manager was about to call the police, but a phone call stopped him. After listening for a moment, his attitude did a 180.

โ€œFollow me,โ€ he said.

In the back room, the manager accessed the archive and pulled up the footage.

There she wasโ€”Elsie. Accompanying Timothy through the whole home-buying process. Touring the model units, reviewing the contract, swiping the card.

She didnโ€™t even try to hide her face.

Why would she? No one couldโ€™ve imagined that the same woman who constantly talked about how much she hated Timothyโ€”how ashamed she was of himโ€”was secretly using Saunders family money to buy him a home and get him settled in the city.

The man who violated Owenโ€™s mother. The man whose crimes led to his fatherโ€™s death. Now living comfortably in Silverburgh, funded by the family he destroyed.

Owenโ€™s voice broke. โ€œHeโ€ฆ he violated my mother, killed my fatherโ€ฆ and now heโ€™s living like a king, spending our money, raised by a daughter we took inโ€ฆโ€

His legs buckled. He collapsed to the floor.

His face turned a frightening shade of purple. The manager, worried, called for an ambulance.

The hospital later diagnosed him with severe liver damage. Heโ€™d have to be hospitalized for treatment. Ironically, the illness gave him a moment of solitudeโ€”finally a break from the madness.

It was Elsie. Elsie had bought the house for Timothy.

She was still tethered to that man.

But hadnโ€™t she looked at himโ€”so sincere, so full of emotionโ€”and said she only saw herself as a daughter of the Saunders family? That Owen was the only family she had?

Then whyโ€ฆ

Why do this?

A cold voice cut through the silence.

โ€œLooks like you still havenโ€™t woken up.โ€

Yunice stood at the door, her expression unreadable.

Owen jerked upright. His face twisted with conflicting emotionsโ€”desperation, anger, guilt.

Yunice sat down casually and grabbed his chart.

Owen awkwardly shifted, swinging his legs down from the bed. โ€œYuniceโ€ฆโ€
