Chapter 575 More Than a Game

Nora gave a soft laugh. โ€œWyatt, your wife trusts you a lot. Thatโ€™s nice.โ€

Wyattโ€™s expression darkened, just as Jordan approached. He extended a hand to Nora. โ€œMs. Nora, let me walk you out.โ€

Nora nodded. โ€œThank you, Mr. Jordan.โ€

Outside Wellinges Pharma, Maine was still fuming. But when she turned to Nora, she saw a faint smile on her face.

โ€œYouโ€™ve got to be kidding,โ€ Maine said. โ€œWyatt treats you like that and youโ€™re smiling?โ€

Noraโ€™s tone was composed. โ€œBefore I saw Yunice, I was uncertain. But after today, I actually feel relieved.โ€ She stroked the bracelet in her hand and smiled. โ€œWyatt and Yunice arenโ€™t a real couple. Canโ€™t you tell?โ€ With confidence, she added, โ€œWyatt married someone who looks like me on purposeโ€“to spite me. That means he still cares. Heโ€™s just acting childish and petty because he canโ€™t deal with his feelings.โ€

Maine looked skeptical. โ€œNoraโ€ฆ donโ€™t you think youโ€™re reading too much into this? Wyattโ€™s a practical guy. You think heโ€™d do something soโ€ฆ emotional?โ€

Nora smiled. โ€œYou donโ€™t understand, Maine. Men stay boys their whole lives. Wyattโ€™s no different. I made mistakes before. Heโ€™s still resentful. Thatโ€™s why he refuses to acknowledge his feelings. But I believeโ€“heโ€™ll forgive me. Because deep down, he still loves me.โ€ Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. Maine didnโ€™t know how to respond.

But in her gut, Maine felt Wyattโ€™s feelings for Yunice were real. Still, she knew it was better for Nora to keep fighting. Because only by fighting could she find out who the real winner would be.

Nora noticed the change in Maineโ€™s expression. โ€œYouโ€™re wondering how I can be so sure? Itโ€™s simple. Yunice doesnโ€™t care enough. She knows Iโ€™m a threatโ€“her biggest threat. But when I was alone with Wyatt, she didnโ€™t follow us in, didnโ€™t even wait outside to see what would happen. That tells me she doesnโ€™t care if Wyatt and I reconnect.โ€

Maine frowned. Something about Yunice didnโ€™t sit right with her. โ€œJustโ€ฆ stay on your guard, okay? Thereโ€™s something off about that girl.โ€ She didnโ€™t know exactly what it wasโ€“but sheโ€™d looked into Yuniceโ€™s background. A girl with no influence and no backing, yet somehow sheโ€™d managed to survive political chaos, danger, and infighting like a tiny boat riding massive waves. That wasnโ€™t normal.

Wellinges Pharma

Yunice had spent the whole day in the lab. She rubbed her neck and headed to the locker room to change out of her protective gear. When she turned around, she caught sight of someone from the corner of her eye. Her breath caughtโ€“then she realized it was Wyatt. He stood there with arms crossed, face grim, radiating pure impatience.

Yunice thought to herself, Whatโ€™s he mad about? He just saw his ex. Shouldnโ€™t I be the one annoyed?

But sheโ€™d learned her lesson. She didnโ€™t question Wyatt about personal matters anymore. As she walked past him, Wyatt reached out and hooked a finger in her collar.

Yunice stopped. โ€œWorkdayโ€™s over.โ€

Time to go home.

Wyatt kicked the locker room door shut behind them. The space instantly felt smaller. His eyes pinned her in place, and Yunice instinctively stepped back a couple of paces.

โ€œSo Nora came to see me,โ€ Wyatt said. โ€œAnd youโ€™re just okay with that?โ€

Yunice replied, โ€œWhy wouldnโ€™t I be? If you wanted to lie, Iโ€™d never find out. And if you wanted to tell me, why would I need to chase after you?โ€

Wyatt gave a short, bitter laugh. โ€œSo zen about it, huh? Guess you donโ€™t even care what she wanted from me.โ€

Yunice flinched and shot him a sharp look. Then she grabbed her clothes and turned to leave.

But Wyatt caught her wrist, softening his tone. โ€œIf you already know what she wanted, then why wonโ€™t you tell me what you think?โ€

Tell him? And what good would that do?

Yunice was sick of them dragging her into their unfinished business. โ€œFine. Then Iโ€™ll say it. I donโ€™t want you to listen to her. I want Morgan to die in prison, and I want Oscar to be released without charges. Can you do that?!โ€

Wyatt leaned casually against the wall, like a mischievous schoolboy whoโ€™d just won. โ€œOf course I can.โ€

That was exactly what he wanted to hear. He wanted Yunice to know she could ask him for anythingโ€“that she had more right to ask than Nora ever did.

He leaned closer, studying her furrowed brow. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? You that happy, you forgot how to show it? Or do you think Iโ€™m just messing with you?โ€

Yunice stared at him, serious. โ€œYou mean it?โ€

Wyatt sneered. โ€œYou think I treat marriage like a joke?โ€

If he didnโ€™t mean it, why marry her at all? He pulled out a cigarette and held it between his lips. โ€œLet me make it clearโ€“right now, I have zero interest in Nora. Sheโ€™s awake now. Whatever responsibilities I had to her are done. But I canโ€™t say what she still feels. So I need you, as my wife, to stand with me. Always.โ€
