Chapter 575 More Than a Game
Nora gave a soft laugh. โWyatt, your wife trusts you a lot. Thatโs nice.โ
Wyattโs expression darkened, just as Jordan approached. He extended a hand to Nora. โMs. Nora, let me walk you out.โ
Nora nodded. โThank you, Mr. Jordan.โ
Outside Wellinges Pharma, Maine was still fuming. But when she turned to Nora, she saw a faint smile on her face.
โYouโve got to be kidding,โ Maine said. โWyatt treats you like that and youโre smiling?โ
Noraโs tone was composed. โBefore I saw Yunice, I was uncertain. But after today, I actually feel relieved.โ She stroked the bracelet in her hand and smiled. โWyatt and Yunice arenโt a real couple. Canโt you tell?โ With confidence, she added, โWyatt married someone who looks like me on purposeโto spite me. That means he still cares. Heโs just acting childish and petty because he canโt deal with his feelings.โ
Maine looked skeptical. โNoraโฆ donโt you think youโre reading too much into this? Wyattโs a practical guy. You think heโd do something soโฆ emotional?โ
Nora smiled. โYou donโt understand, Maine. Men stay boys their whole lives. Wyattโs no different. I made mistakes before. Heโs still resentful. Thatโs why he refuses to acknowledge his feelings. But I believeโheโll forgive me. Because deep down, he still loves me.โ Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. Maine didnโt know how to respond.
But in her gut, Maine felt Wyattโs feelings for Yunice were real. Still, she knew it was better for Nora to keep fighting. Because only by fighting could she find out who the real winner would be.
Nora noticed the change in Maineโs expression. โYouโre wondering how I can be so sure? Itโs simple. Yunice doesnโt care enough. She knows Iโm a threatโher biggest threat. But when I was alone with Wyatt, she didnโt follow us in, didnโt even wait outside to see what would happen. That tells me she doesnโt care if Wyatt and I reconnect.โ
Maine frowned. Something about Yunice didnโt sit right with her. โJustโฆ stay on your guard, okay? Thereโs something off about that girl.โ She didnโt know exactly what it wasโbut sheโd looked into Yuniceโs background. A girl with no influence and no backing, yet somehow sheโd managed to survive political chaos, danger, and infighting like a tiny boat riding massive waves. That wasnโt normal.
Wellinges Pharma
Yunice had spent the whole day in the lab. She rubbed her neck and headed to the locker room to change out of her protective gear. When she turned around, she caught sight of someone from the corner of her eye. Her breath caughtโthen she realized it was Wyatt. He stood there with arms crossed, face grim, radiating pure impatience.
Yunice thought to herself, Whatโs he mad about? He just saw his ex. Shouldnโt I be the one annoyed?
But sheโd learned her lesson. She didnโt question Wyatt about personal matters anymore. As she walked past him, Wyatt reached out and hooked a finger in her collar.
Yunice stopped. โWorkdayโs over.โ
Time to go home.
Wyatt kicked the locker room door shut behind them. The space instantly felt smaller. His eyes pinned her in place, and Yunice instinctively stepped back a couple of paces.
โSo Nora came to see me,โ Wyatt said. โAnd youโre just okay with that?โ
Yunice replied, โWhy wouldnโt I be? If you wanted to lie, Iโd never find out. And if you wanted to tell me, why would I need to chase after you?โ
Wyatt gave a short, bitter laugh. โSo zen about it, huh? Guess you donโt even care what she wanted from me.โ
Yunice flinched and shot him a sharp look. Then she grabbed her clothes and turned to leave.
But Wyatt caught her wrist, softening his tone. โIf you already know what she wanted, then why wonโt you tell me what you think?โ
Tell him? And what good would that do?
Yunice was sick of them dragging her into their unfinished business. โFine. Then Iโll say it. I donโt want you to listen to her. I want Morgan to die in prison, and I want Oscar to be released without charges. Can you do that?!โ
Wyatt leaned casually against the wall, like a mischievous schoolboy whoโd just won. โOf course I can.โ
That was exactly what he wanted to hear. He wanted Yunice to know she could ask him for anythingโthat she had more right to ask than Nora ever did.
He leaned closer, studying her furrowed brow. โWhatโs wrong? You that happy, you forgot how to show it? Or do you think Iโm just messing with you?โ
Yunice stared at him, serious. โYou mean it?โ
Wyatt sneered. โYou think I treat marriage like a joke?โ
If he didnโt mean it, why marry her at all? He pulled out a cigarette and held it between his lips. โLet me make it clearโright now, I have zero interest in Nora. Sheโs awake now. Whatever responsibilities I had to her are done. But I canโt say what she still feels. So I need you, as my wife, to stand with me. Always.โ
