Chapter 574 Lines in the Sand

Wyatt walked over and stopped beside Yunice. โ€œThree years ago, Jordan sent all your things back to the Johnson family. Didnโ€™t you see them?โ€

Nora turned her gaze to him, her voice still calm and gentle. โ€œI did. But one item was missing. Whoever packed up mustโ€™ve overlooked it. I wouldnโ€™t have come otherwise, but that item is very important to me.โ€

Maineโ€™s tone sharpened. โ€œMr. Wyatt, itโ€™s just a small item, right? Youโ€™ll let Nora retrieve it, wonโ€™t you?โ€

Wyattโ€™s expression went cold, lips tightening. โ€œTell Jordan whatโ€™s missingโ€”heโ€™ll find it. This is a restricted area. Outsiders arenโ€™t allowed.โ€

Maine shot Yunice a pointed look, clearly implying, And sheโ€™s not an outsider?

Laurie wasnโ€™t having it. She scoffed, โ€œAccording to marriage law, half of Wellinges Pharma belongs to Yunice. Sheโ€™s got every right to come and go.โ€

Maine nearly laughed out loud. โ€œHalf the company? Did Wyatt agree to that? You people really have no shame.โ€

Laurie shot back, โ€œWhether he agrees or not, thatโ€™s between husband and wife. Whatโ€™s it to you, nosy hag?โ€

โ€œYou-!โ€ Maine was ready to throw hands.

Yunice quickly stepped in front of Laurie.

Maine sneered, gritting her teeth. โ€œRats getting their dayโ€ฆ You all think youโ€™re so high and mighty now. But everyone knows Nora wasโ€”โ€

โ€œMaine,โ€ Nora cut her off sternly. She turned to Wyatt, voice steady. โ€œMr. Wyatt, please allow me to retrieve it myself. No one else can find it.โ€

Wyatt didnโ€™t want to concede. But Maine took the chance to push Noraโ€™s wheelchair past him, toward the executive office.

Yunice looked overโ€”Wyattโ€™s office was right next to the main secretarial department. After all, he hadnโ€™t kept a secretary around in years. Only Jordan remained as his assistant.

Wyatt followed them.

Yunice and Laurie stayed back. Laurie muttered, โ€œSheโ€™ll leave once she gets her stuff. No more excuses to come back.โ€

Yunice heard the protective tone in Laurieโ€™s voice and felt a twinge of warmth. โ€œLaurieโ€ฆ everyone says Iโ€™m the homewrecker. You donโ€™t think so?โ€

Laurie rolled her eyes. โ€œWhatโ€™s it got to do with you? When you met Wyatt, Nora wasnโ€™t even in the picture. If anyoneโ€™s to blame, itโ€™s Wyatt for not cleaning up his own mess.โ€

She really didnโ€™t hold back.

Laurie continued, โ€œNext time they try to come at you with their passive-aggressive crap, donโ€™t just stand there. Fire back. Stop acting like youโ€™re guilty or something.โ€

Then she shot a glance toward the secretarial office. โ€œThereโ€™s nothing simple between those two. Especially Nora. She plays the whole calm and pure routine, but sheโ€™s sharpโ€”calculating. She came here on purpose. To let you see her.โ€

She looked Yunice up and down. โ€œYouโ€™re not in the wrong, but if you back down now, someone will take him away.โ€

Yunice pressed her lips together and stayed quiet.

Nora sat in her wheelchair, Wyatt leaning against a wall in the distance. Maine was moving furniture around, searching through the gap between the desk and wall.

The room was silent.

Nora watched Maine for a moment, then slowly turned her gaze toward Wyatt, her eyes soft with lingering affection.

โ€œโ€ฆWyatt, itโ€™s been three years. Donโ€™t you have anything to say to me?โ€

Wyatt glanced her way, but didnโ€™t meet her eyesโ€”and didnโ€™t answer.

Nora bit her lip, then tried again after a few seconds. โ€œMaine told meโ€ฆ you used rare rhino horn to save me. Yunice even fought with you over itโ€ฆโ€

โ€œOh?โ€ Wyatt let out a cold chuckle. โ€œMy wife argued with me? What, did she crawl under my bed and report back to you?โ€

Her expression dimmed. โ€œDo you really have to be so harsh with me, Wyatt? You know how rare my recovery wasโ€ฆโ€

Theyโ€™d come so close to being lost forever. Couldnโ€™t he show even a little gratitude for the miracle? Wasnโ€™t it only after losing something that people truly learned to treasure it?

But Wyatt didnโ€™t show a hint of warmth.

Noraโ€™s eyes reddened. She bit her lip and said softly, โ€œIf youโ€™re trying to cut ties with meโ€ฆ why did you come at all? Arenโ€™t you worried Yunice might get the wrong idea?โ€

Wyatt replied, โ€œYouโ€™ve got it wrong. I came to keep an eye on you two. Donโ€™t say anything in front of my wife thatโ€™ll upset her. If you do, Iโ€™ll be the one stuck trying to cheer her up laterโ€”and trust me, sheโ€™s impossible to coax.โ€

โ€œWyatt!โ€ Maine snapped, furious, slamming her fist on the desk.

Wyatt shot her a look. โ€œFind the thing quickly. Donโ€™t waste time. Youโ€™ve got three minutes.โ€

Wyattโ€™s words were razor sharp.

Nora lowered her eyes. When her tears fell, she wiped them away and rolled her wheelchair forward. From the gap beside the desk, she pulled out a bracelet.

โ€œMaine, letโ€™s go.โ€

Maine shot Wyatt a venomous glare, then pushed Nora out of the office.

Nora glanced up.

The hallway was empty.

Yunice and Laurie were gone from where theyโ€™d been standing.
