Chapter 172
Unfortunately for Harvey, his troubles were far from over. Immediately after Andrew had rebuked him, Leroy launched another attack.
โHarvey, I need an answer now. When are you paying back the money you borrowed?โ Leroy's tone was aggressive, a stark contrast to his usual sycophantic demeanor.
โLeroy, considering my relationship with Christie, whatโs a few million between family? I could repay you instantly,โ Harvey retorted, his patience fraying.
Leroy extended his hand, demanding, โGreat, then pay me now.โ
Harvey was furious but powerless. He lacked the funds to repay Leroy, and the weight of his other debts threatened to force him to sell everything.
Leroy mocked, โHarvey, youโre the Weller family heir, aspiring to marry Christie. If you canโt manage a few million, what makes you think youโre worthy of her?โ
Humiliation washed over Harvey. Never before had Jayrodale's golden boy been so cornered. The situation was further complicated by his inability to retaliate against Christina's brother.
โLeroy, give me time. I promise to repay you, Mrs. Stevens, and Christina,โ Harvey pleaded, offering empty promises to buy time.
Leroy remained unconvinced. โOh, please! I see right through you, Harvey. All talkโa pretty face with no substance. Youโll just borrow more money to repay me. Why not ask Andrew? Heโs rich now, and heโs right here.โ
โYou expect me to borrow from him? Do you think someone of my status would stoop so low?โ Harvey felt deeply insulted.
Leroy shrugged. โThatโs not my concern. Honestly, Iโd prefer Andrew as a brother-in-law. Youโre a broke fraud, Harvey. The Stevens family must have been blind to consider you.โ
The blatant disrespect enraged Harvey. โLeroy, are you looking down on me?โ
Christina intervened, sensing the escalation. โLeroy, thatโs enough! If Harvey canโt pay now, stop pressing him.โ
Leroy argued, โSo we just let him get away with this? The Weller family claims to be so powerful in Jayrodale, but heโs a con man who took your money and tried to steal your heart. Heโs useless.โ
Christina stated firmly, โLetโs put this aside. If anyoneโs to blame, itโs me. I should have been more careful.โ
Leroy then abruptly shifted his attention to Andrew. โAndrew, I apologize for my previous behavior. I know you still have feelings for Christina, and you two would be perfect. Why not rekindle your relationship?โ
His face was eager, almost desperate, as he smiled ingratiatingly at Andrew. โSorry, Iโm not interested,โ Andrew replied coldly.
โCome on, Andrew,โ Leroy persisted. โYou have money, power, and status. You and Christina would be perfect together.โ
