Chapter 444 Donโ€™t Arrest Randomly

โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€ Janessa asked.

Javier lowered his head slightly. โ€œIt was a coincidence.โ€

โ€œReally? So, you do come to bars like these,โ€ Janessa said, no longer looking at him. After all, he was just a subordinate, nothing special.

Javier nodded. โ€œSometimes, when Iโ€™m bored, Iโ€™ll drop by.โ€

In reality, Javier seldom frequented bars. People like him, who did dirty work, disliked noisy environments. He was there because he had been following Janessa. Knowing sheโ€™d been feeling down, he wanted to be near her, ensuring her safety. This desire was inexplicable, but it was there.

Janessa nodded slightly. โ€œAlright, you can leave now. I need some quiet.โ€

โ€œFinding quiet in a bar?โ€ Javier retorted.

Janessaโ€™s mood soured. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? You have a problem with what I said?โ€

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t dare. Iโ€™ll take my leave now,โ€ Javier said, turning to go.

Just then, sirens blared, growing louder. A convoy of police cars halted at the clubโ€™s entrance. Police officers poured in, shouting, โ€œEveryone, freeze!โ€

The DJโ€™s music stopped; the noisy environment fell silent. The previously intoxicated patrons sobered, their attention riveted on the police.

โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€

Janessa looked at the officers, confused. Javier felt a sudden unease. He grabbed Janessaโ€™s hand. โ€œMs. Sherritt, come with me,โ€ he said.

โ€œHuh?โ€ Janessa was startled as Javier pulled her outside.

They were the only ones who had moved. Janessa, terrified, halted, glaring at Javier, who could only look helpless.

A police officer approached his superior, showing him a photo. โ€œSir, doesnโ€™t this woman resemble that one?โ€ He pointed to Janessa.

The superior officer glanced at the photo and Janessa. He was certain. โ€œArrest her.โ€

โ€œAffirmative!โ€ The officer apprehended Janessa.

Before Janessa could react, she was detained, screaming in fear. โ€œWhat are you doing? Why are you grabbing me? Javier, Javier, help me!โ€

Javier stepped forward, seizing the officerโ€™s hands. His tone was icy. โ€œGentlemen, arresting someone without explanation isnโ€™t proper, is it?โ€

The officer turned. โ€œYoung man, this is police business. Donโ€™t interfere.โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to obstruct, but arenโ€™t you supposed to serve the people? You barged in without reason, disrupting everyone, and offered no explanation. Thatโ€™s not right, is it?โ€ Javier argued.

โ€œExactly, why am I being arrested?โ€ Janessa asked, puzzled.

Nearby, others echoed her question. โ€œExactly, do the police just arrest people without reason nowadays?โ€ "That's right. You can just grab someone randomly."

The chatter grew. The leading officer sighed. โ€œMiss, I intended to protect your privacy. But since you insistโ€ฆ We received a tip youโ€™re suspected of buying illicit drugs and poisoning your father. Heโ€™s critically ill. Do you have anything to say?โ€

His tone was helpless. โ€œOh my goodness!โ€ The onlookers gasped. Who would have thought this gentle woman could poison her father? They began to disparage Janessa.

โ€œWhy do you have to accuse me of this? I didnโ€™t do it! Why donโ€™t you believe me?โ€ Janessa panicked.

The officer was speechless. โ€œWhether you did it or not, weโ€™ll find out at the station.โ€

They prepared to take Janessa away. โ€œDonโ€™t arrest me! I didnโ€™t do anything! Javier, Javier!โ€ Janessa resisted, but was no match for the officers.

They escorted her out, their grip firm. Janessa frantically looked at Javier. โ€œJavier, tell Aunt Rachel about this. Tell her to save me!โ€

Javier watched, knowing he couldnโ€™t intervene. He nodded faintly. โ€œI will.โ€

Janessa was taken away, the sirens fading. Javierโ€™s gaze darkened before he went to Ingram Manor.

Half an hour later, he found Rachel on the couch. He reported the situation.

โ€œWhat? Arrested again?โ€ Rachel was startled. โ€œWhy?โ€

Javier explained, โ€œThe police say Ms. Sherritt is suspected of buying illicit drugs and poisoning her father, requiring further investigation.โ€

Rachel was furious. โ€œDamn it! How did they find out?โ€

The poisoning of Rupert was Rachelโ€™s scheme. Sheโ€™d stressed Janessa get drugs from the black market to avoid detection. Unexpectedly, Janessa was caught. Generally, police don't arrest without evidence. Could someone have uncovered something?

Rachel racked her brains. This was strange. Who had discovered the evidence?
