Chapter 368
Seeing Jennifer crying like that, Nick felt heartbroken. His voice was rough as he said, โJennifer, donโt be too upset. Now that your mom and I are officially married, our family of four is rightfully together. When your brother returns, heโll make things easier for you. Youโre becoming stronger every day, and as long as you have money and power, no one will dare call you an illegitimate child.โ
Jennifer understood this reasoning, too. However, she didnโt want this relationship exposed so soonโat least not until she succeeded and became famous. By then, her achievements would overshadow everything.
Jennifer suddenly stood up, recalling Wendyโs relentless questions that evening. She quickly took out her phone to check the trending topics.
Various trending terms were plastered across major websites, such as hashtags: [Eldest Daughter of the Simpson family is a Traitor], [Nick Simpson Accused of Marriage Fraud].
Even well-known streamers made special reports on this matter. As she scrolled down, all the comments called her a backstabber.
One commented: [Wendy is pitiful. With her business gone and deep in debt, her husband sided with the backstabber and his mistress, forcing her to divorce.]
Another comment read: [Thereโs not the least pitiful, only more pitiful. The daughter she raised was the mistressโs child, while her biological daughter was kicked outโa dramatic scene only found among the wealthy.]
Jennifer shouted out of anger and threw her phone on the ground. Her face contorted with rage, veins bulging on her forehead. She never expected sheโd be ruined by Maris. The intense pain and humiliation spread through her body.
She looked at Nick and taunted him, โDad, my mom was right about you; youโre useless, canโt even protect your own wife and child.โ
Nick was shocked to see the usually well-behaved and understanding Jennifer now glaring at him with resentment, which made him frightened. He said, โJennifer, how can you say that about me?โ
Jennifer sneered at Nick, โYouโve depended on Wendyโs support your entire life, and youโre still such a failure.โ
โYouโฆโ Nick shouted. His blood pressure rose in anger as he looked at Jennifer, feeling uncomfortable.
He thought, โEverything I had done before is for her, and now she is saying I am a useless father. I have abandoned four children and given everything to her and her brother, yet in the end, she calls me a failure.โ
โJennifer, I should have known you were heartless,โ Nick said, his face pale with anger.
At that time, Brenda appeared and said, โJennifer, what are you doing? How could you upset your dad like this?โ
Brenda came over to ask for money, only to find a tense atmosphere between Nick and Jennifer. She suspected Jennifer of bullying Nick again.
Seeing Brenda made Jennifer even more irritated. She thought, โWhy does she have to come here?โ
โNick, are you alright?โ Brenda asked as she supported Nick to sit down.
Nick felt annoyed and said, โMom, Iโm fine. Why are you here?โ
Brenda pursed her lips, looking unhappy. She said, โDid I have a choice not to come? You and Jennifer promised to give me and your dad 30 thousand every month, but I havenโt received it. And when are you going to let us move in here? The apartment weโre currently in has an elevator thatโs always a hassle to catch, and the transportation there is inconvenient. Living in a villa is much more comfortable.โ
Brenda glanced at Jennifer and continued, โJennifer, you promised me before; you canโt go back on your word. Thirty thousand must be given to me by tomorrow.โ
Hearing this, Jennifer became even angrier. She shouted angrily, "You Simpson family are all leeches, itโs terrifying. Only a fool like Wendy would give you money to build a villa and pay you 30 thousand a month. Only that kind of idiot would honor such greedy people like you.
โI donโt have money. Canโt you see Iโm stressed out here? Youโve taken millions over the years; isnโt that enough? Youโre practically on your deathbed, yet all you think about is money.
โDonโt think Iโm clueless. I know youโve been using this money to bail out Rex. If youโre giving all the money to his family, why donโt you live with them?
โHow shameless, using othersโ hard-earned money to support a son whoโs only interested in gambling. I wonโt give you a penny ever again.โ
Brenda panicked upon hearing this. Whoever gave her money was like a god to her. Now that Jennifer refused to give her money, she wouldnโt play nice.
She angrily pointed at Jennifer and shouted, โYou worthless brat, how dare you talk to me like that? If you canโt keep your promises, you are undutiful. You little troublemaker, be careful, or Iโll sell you off.โ
Jennifer laughed angrily. She knew Brendaโs temperament. Brenda loved money more than anything else, but Brenda didnโt care about being tidy at all.
Jennifer replied, โI bought this villa. Itโs under my name now. If you think you can move in here, youโre dreaming. Donโt you realize how dirty you are? Every time you use something, I have to throw it away.
โLook at your filthy teeth. How often do you brush them? Having a meal at the same table with you makes me feel sick. Do you think you can move in here? Dream on.โ
Brenda said, โYou, youโฆ Jennifer, how can you speak to me like that?โ She was furious at being accused of being dirty.
Brenda gave Nick a hard smack on the head and said, โNick, how could you raise your daughter to be so spiteful? Didnโt you teach her to respect her elders? Look at her rude behavior.
โYou bought this house, and Camellia was married to you with your money. If weโre talking about parasites, itโs them who are the real ones. If not for the three of them, we wouldnโt be kicked out of a luxurious villa and end up like this.โ
Then, Brenda pointed at Jennifer and scolded, โJennifer, what do you have to be proud of? How did you get everything you have now? Should I grab a megaphone and shout it to everyone on the street?
โYouโre my granddaughter. I donโt want to be harsh, but letโs not overdo it. I only need 30 thousand a month, not hundreds of thousands or millions.
โYou secretly took over Wendyโs company, which is worth billions. So whatโs wrong with giving me a little money as a sign of respect?
โJennifer, let me tell you something. When I insult someone, it can make eating a choking hazard, drinking a risk, and even walking dangerous.
โYou think Iโm dirty. Well, I think youโre nothing but trouble. Youโre wearing that sewer face while spinning tales. Be careful, or I might annoy you to death.โ
Jenniferโs face turned pale with anger. She thought, โWhy would I want such relatives around? They are all leeches, bloodsuckers, all of them!โ Suddenly, she missed Wendy and the four brothers, who had always spoiled her.
If Camellia hadnโt been crying and acting like a victim every day, Jennifer wouldnโt have torn things apart with Wendy so quickly. Looking back now, Camellia was just pretending to be pitiful.
Jennifer sneered, suddenly feeling like she had completely messed up a winning hand.
She looked at Nick and warned him, โDad, you handle these two old folks yourself. If things get embarrassing again, you should divorce my mom, and I wonโt intervene for you anymore.โ
