Chapter 278
Natalie didnโt stay at the hospital. Jacob saw her off to catch a taxi.
Natalie looked at him and said, โJacob, you just need to focus on your studies for the next few years. Donโt worry about anything else. I will personally prepare the medicine for your grandmother. This medicine is a special drug for this condition, which is not available in other hospitals. Even the medical equipment in our hospital is very advanced and exclusive. I have already established two such hospitals abroad. Your grandmotherโs condition will gradually improve.โ
Jacob remembered overhearing her conversation with Chris that day. The medication was incredibly expensive, with just the service fee exceeding 300 thousand dollars, and the ongoing treatment costs were even higher.
โNatalie, why are you helping me so much?โ He couldnโt understand why she was being so nice to him. They were just acquaintances, yet she was offering help that amounted to millions of dollars in medical expenses, something most people wouldnโt do.
Natalie grinned as she observed his attractive face. โJacob, by helping you, Iโm actually helping myself. I do what I can because I have the ability. I donโt expect anything in return. Your progress in your study is the best return for me.โ
In her previous life, after she died, all that money was left sitting in the bank. Now she wanted to live a healthy and happy life by doing everything in her power to help those in need and to perform good deeds and acts of kindness.
She muttered, โAlright, donโt feel burdened by this. Your priority is to focus on your studies. Call me if you need anything.โ
Jacob nodded firmly. โOkay.โ
โMs. Shawn.โ Xavier suddenly appeared in front of Natalie.
โXavier, what are you doing here?โ Natalie asked in a slightly stern tone.
Xavier looked apologetic. He smiled sheepishly, โMs. Shawn, Iโm really sorry. If I hadnโt stopped the car today, you wouldnโt have had the accident.โ
Upon reviewing her medical records, he discovered that she had suffered severe injuries.
Natalie looked at him. Xavier was a nice guy and the most loyal person to Easton.
โYou donโt have to feel sorry. What happened today wasnโt your fault. The culprit was following me all along. Even if nothing went wrong today, it would happen another time.โ
It was nothing personal, and Xavier wasnโt really to blame.
Xavier looked at her with concern. โMs. Shawn, your injuries are pretty severe. Why did you get discharged?โ
Natalie didnโt like staying in the hospital much. โMy family doctor can give me an IV at home.โ
Xavier was aware that she probably had an extraordinary ability; otherwise, she wouldnโt have been able to save Easton back then.
โMr. Garcia isโฆwaiting for you in the car,โ Xavier said, lowering his head.
Easton left the hospital but didnโt drive away; he waited in the car as if he knew Natalie would come out.
A deep hatred flickered in Natalieโs eyes. โTell him to get lost! Go back and tell him not to come looking for me unless itโs about the divorce.โ
Xavier said, โMs. Shawn, Mr. Garcia also regrets itโฆโ
โHe wonโt regret it; he doesnโt care about me. Just tell him exactly what I said, so he wonโt trouble you.โ After Natalie finished speaking, her ride arrived. She opened the door and got in.
Jacob quickly followed in.
โUhโฆโ Xavier scratched his head. He thought, โWhy is that brat coming along? Mr. Garcia is watching from the car in the back. Wonโt this just make him angrier?โ
Xavier quickly got into the car.
Easton saw the scene, and a flash of anger crossed his eyes. She dared to leave with another man.
Easton looked at Xavier, his voice cold and steady while saying, โFollow them.โ
Xavier drove after them without saying a word.
Natalie looked surprised as Jacob got into the car. โJacob, why did you come with me? Itโll be a hassle for you to come back. My place is two hours away.โ
Jacob couldnโt stop worrying about her, afraid that the man might bother her again. โNatalie, Iโll take you home. Iโm concerned about you.โ
Natalie found his worried, handsome face amusing; he really was quite concerned about her.
She said, โThereโs nothing to worry about; heโs not going to eat me alive.โ
She knew Easton was cruel, always cold, and emotionally abusive. He had slapped her twice in anger, but she had retaliated.
Jacob hesitated, unable to hold back from asking, โNatalie, is he treating you poorly?โ
Natalie smiled. โNot really; but there are a lot of reasons for it. Iโll tell you when I have the chance.โ
Jacob knew she didnโt want to say more, so he didnโt ask further. He really hoped he could grow up quickly to help her.
Natalie started chatting with him about school. In their previous life, Jacob was a gaming genius, a real pro with computers.
Jennifer used his skills to steal lots of corporate secrets. Once he was no longer useful, Jennifer abandoned him without mercy.
His ending was pretty tragic. Jennifer loved to use people and then throw them away like trash. Jennifer was especially suspicious of those who questioned her; anyone unfaithful didnโt stand a chance with her.
She would fabricate a variety of โaccidentsโ - unexpected fatalities, which left no clues to lead back to her.
Jennifer harmed some, and Natalie saved others. In this life, Natalie was determined to live it the way she wanted.
The two of them became deeply engrossed in the discussion, some of which was about his professional knowledge. Before they knew it, they were at Natalieโs doorstep. Natalie smiled and said, โJacob, do you want to come in for a bit?โ Looking at the luxurious villa, Jacob shook his head and said, โThanks, Natalie; maybe another time. Youโre too tired today. Iโll visit you in a few days.โ
Natalie replied, โAlright then. Iโll have the driver take you back to the hospital.โ
Jacob responded, โOkay.โ
After the car left, Natalie went to open the door.
Suddenly, dazzling lights came through, and Natalie raised her hand to block the glaring lights.
After the car stopped, Natalie recognized the familiar license plate, and a flicker of anger flashed in her eyes. He just would not stop bothering her.
Easton got out of the vehicle, his tall frame giving off an intimidating presence.
Natalie caught his cold gaze and went straight inside without a word.
But Easton swiftly blocked the door and followed her in.
Natalie spun around, glaring at him. โMr. Garcia, are you unhappy that Iโm still alive?โ
Eastonโs brow furrowed as he listened to her sharp tone, his face darkening. โNatalie, you were the one who made me angryโฆโ
โSo what if I made you angry? It wasnโt the first time youโd left me stranded on the highway. The first time wasnโt such a big deal, it was just a two-hour walk from home. This time I almost died, but I canโt really blame you. If you want to see me dead, nowโs not the time. I wonโt die before you and Jennifer. I swear you two lovebirds will die before I do.โ
Natalieโs eyes burned with intense murderous intent.
Recalling the horrific pain from her past life, her entire being was now filled with a desire to kill.
Now Easton clearly felt the hatred coming from Natalieโs heart.
Every single incident had turned Natalieโs heart cold because of them.
His indulgence was what hurt her so deeply.
No matter what he said, Natalie would never believe him.
Even if she knew that all these issues were because Jennifer meddled, he wondered if she would forgive him.
