Chapter 279
Easton walked over, frowning as he said, "Your arm is hardly hurt. Why aren't you getting treated at the hospital? Why did you come back here?"
Natalie was surprised that Easton cared about her.
She laughed mockingly, "Taking care of me? I asked you to get me some medicine because I had a fever and couldnโt leave my bed. You thought I was a burden, and you left right away once Jennifer called."
"I almost died back then. And now you're worried about my arm just because it's hurt? Your concern is lacking. Do you even care?"
Even though she brought these troubles on herself, fully aware that this man didnโt love her, the resentment still lingered.
But what she hated was how everyone was using her. She had allowed them to take advantage of her, let them do as they pleased, but they couldnโt even behave like decent human beings.
She asked, "When you used me to take control of the business, did you ever think about how much I was hurting?"
"So stop being such a hypocrite, Easton. You people only care about yourselves. Do you even care about anyone else?"
After Natalie finished speaking, she went inside.
Right now, she didnโt want to see Easton. Seeing him just filled her with anger and hatred.
Easton quickly walked over and stood in front of Natalie. "Natalie, stop it. I was wrong in the past, but now I know the truth. I wonโt treat you the same way as I did before."
Natalie interrupted him coldly, "Sorry, but I donโt believe a word youโre saying. Didn't you just leave me stranded on the highway? You're still treating me the same as always."
"Thatโs because you said you were going to find another guy."
"You can go be with Jennifer, so why canโt I find someone else? Easton, donโt go too far. Iโve already let you two be together, just not yet, okay? I promise not to bother you anymore. Iโm really willing to let you have her."
In the past, she wouldnโt bear to leave Easton. He had saved her life, and except for the whole Jennifer issue, he wasnโt too bad.
But she couldnโt stand that terrible woman, Jennifer.
The Simpson family had four sons; the third and fourth were the most useless.
That was why they were the first to die.
Eastonโs eyes were like a deep abyss as he stared at her intently. "I told you Iโm serious this time. I donโt deny that in the past I never knew how to love a person."
She scoffed. "But you sure know how to love Jennifer. You spend all your time with her, you are at her beck and call, and you canโt stand to see her hurt. Even a small scratch on her would make you incredibly upset.
That is love, Easton. How could you think you donโt understand it?"
She was wounded and angered by his words, wondering, "Is he mocking himself?"
Easton was surprised, thinking, Is this what love is?
He had no feelings for Jennifer, but he felt different when it came to Natalie.
With Jennifer, it felt more like a duty, feeling grateful for her saving his life.
That life-saving debt was almost repaid by now.
It was different with Natalie, though. This woman could easily make him have a mood swing; seeing her with other men made him want to kill the guy next to her.
"Now that youโre hurt, Iโll take care of you." After Easton said that, he walked in uninvited.
Natalie was furious. "Easton, this is my house."
"I know, but Grandma saw the news about your accident. She insisted I come over to take care of you, or she wouldnโt be able to sleep tonight."
Easton used Grandma as an excuse, and indeed, she had seen the news.
She had called him, asking him to take good care of Natalie.
Natalie sneered, "You really know how to make up excuses. Iโll explain to Grandma that Iโm fine."
Easton ignored her and walked in.
Peter stood at the door waiting for Natalie.
When he saw Natalieโs ex-husband, his face darkened. "Ms. Shawn, whatโs your ex doing here?"
Natalie almost burst out laughing when Peter called Easton her ex. As someone so stubborn and domineering, Easton probably wouldnโt be leaving tonight.
Easton looked grim. "I am not her ex."
Peter ignored him.
In just a year, she could get a divorce.
Natalie smiled at Peter. "Peter, itโs late. Go get some rest. Iโm fine. Iโll have the family doctor come over for an IV in the morning."
Natalie knew Peter was worried about her, which is why he stood at the door waiting for her.
Peter and Zara were truly loyal to the family.
She treated them like family too, not wanting them to get exhausted.
Peter glanced at Easton, concerned. "Ms. Shawn, heโฆ"
Natalie said, "Itโs OK. Heโll leave soon. You go to sleep."
Peter gave Easton a warning look before he left.
Easton frowned, thinking, Am I really that unwelcome here?
Natalie opened the door and walked in, followed by Easton.
This was Eastonโs first time coming to Natalieโs home. The villaโs interior design made it feel cozy.
The large spiral staircase was a highlight of the villa.
The chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a dazzling and captivating glow.
The villaโs interior design perfectly blended subtlety with luxury without any overly ostentatious colors or decorations, yet it revealed unparalleled quality and taste in every detail.
Easton watched Natalieโs slender figure, feeling a twinge of guilt in his eyes. The villa they lived in before truly wasn't good enough for her.
Easton walked over and sat next to Natalie, took out his phone, and made a video call to his grandmother.
The call was quickly answered, and Anne smiled warmly, "Hello, Easton, have you been taking good care of Natalie?"
Easton pointed the camera at Natalie. "Itโs Grandma. Iโm not lying to you."
Natalie smiled and greeted her, "Anne, Iโm not severely injured. Iโll be fine in a couple of days after some rest."
Anne looked worried, her eyes full of concern. "Natalie, why did you go on the overpass? I feel heartbroken seeing you injured. I specifically sent Easton to take care of you."
"He is actually quite caring and considerate. I wonโt feel at ease if he isnโt there to look after you."
Natalie felt warm at her concern. "Anne, I have Zara taking care of me, so he really doesnโt need to stay."
Anne said, "Natalie, married couples shouldnโt be apart for too long. Let Easton take care of you this evening. Youโve been there for him for two years; now that youโre injured, itโs his turn to look after you.
Thatโs settled then. Iโm tired and going to bed. Iโll call you first thing in the morning."
After saying this with a smile, Anne hung up the phone.
Natalie was speechless.
Anne intended to have them spend some time together, but all Natalie wanted was to avoid Easton.
Natalie wondered if Anneโs agreement to their divorce was just a strategy to manipulate.
Natalie knew Anne was resourceful.
In this world, not many people were kind to her, which was why she cherished that bit of warmth.
Easton glanced at the exhausted Natalie, his eyes flickering. "Itโs Grandmaโs order, so I have to comply."
Natalie sighed. "She is not here. She can feel relieved after sheโs seen you with me just now. You can leave now."
