Chapter 277

Xavier chuckled. "Mr. Garcia, why so interested in my friends?"

Easton scoffed. "Because I know you don't have many friends."

Xavier thought, "That's quite heart-wrenching. Over the years, he worked tirelessly to build the company with him, leaving no time to find a girlfriend."

Xavier remained silent.

Easton didn't ask further. Thinking about Natalieโ€™s car accident, he said irritably, "Go check if Natalie really got into a car accident, will you?"

Xavier was frustrated. No one would joke about a car accident. "Mr. Garcรญa, you told me not to mention Ms. Shawn in front of you, so I didnโ€™t say that the person Iโ€™m visiting is Ms. Shawn. Just after she got off the highway, she was hit by Davianโ€™s car. It seemed intentional. If Ms. Shawn hadnโ€™t reacted fast, she would have died."

Easton frowned, slightly taken aback. "She didn't lie to me; she really was in a car accident."

Xavier stopped talking.

A deep sense of guilt flashed through Easton. If he hadnโ€™t kicked her out of the car, she wouldnโ€™t have been in danger. But what she said made him really angry. He was still her husband, but she dared see another man.

"Go to the hospital," he muttered.

Xavier froze, wanting to say that Ms. Shawn probably didnโ€™t want to see him. But he didnโ€™t dare to say it.

Natalie had to finish one last bottle of saline at the hospital.

Chris brought them a big dinner. With a smile, he said, "Natalie, let me join you too. Youโ€™re usually so busy. I barely have a chance to ask you out to dinner."

"Sure. The meal is more enjoyable when Iโ€™m accompanied by two attractive men."

Easton reached the doorway and overheard Natalieโ€™s words. The anger he had managed to suppress quickly surged inside again. He cursed inwardly, 'Damn Natalie! She's out here flirting with other men again!'

Easton didn't enter the room; he just turned and left. She had plenty of men with her; she didnโ€™t need him.

Xavier sighed, helplessly handing the fruit to the nurse before leaving with Easton.

The hospital room felt as cozy as ever.

Natalie smiled. "You devote so much time to your patients that we hardly ever get to eat together."

Chris said, "Hah. Thatโ€™s because Iโ€™m not as smart as you."

Chris looked at Jacob and reminded him, "Jacob, make sure you focus on your upcoming university studies. Natalie is incredibly talented. She skipped grades to finish all her coursework while others were busy with college entrance exams. In the past two years, she has also completed her graduate studies. She is truly a top scholar."

"I will," Jacob replied, his eyes shining with admiration.

Chris glanced at Natalie again and joked playfully, "Natalie, do you think the Simpsons would regret kicking you out if they knew how talented you are?"

Natalie chuckled softly. "Chris, do you think those who wish you die ever regret it?"

"Hah, girl, isn't that trouble you brought on yourself? If you hadn't fallen head over heels for Easton, nobody wouldโ€™ve been able to hurt you." Chris slid the bowl of oatmeal in front of her.

Natalie gave a bitter smile. "Iโ€™ve learned my lesson, alright? I wonโ€™t fall in love again in this lifetime. From now on, Iโ€™ll just focus on my career."

"That's right. With your talent and academic prowess, the world is at your feet, and money will practically come to you. It was definitely not worth wasting three years on a worthless man."

"Yes, Chris, youโ€™re absolutely right." Natalie chuckled in exasperation.

Jacobโ€™s gaze dimmed. He thought, 'Does Natalie have someone he likes now? Was it the guy who picked her up from the hospital that night? But why does she want a divorce?'

"That man was sitting in the car; I didnโ€™t get a clear look at him that night."

Jacob lowered his head and kept eating, silently listening to the conversation between Natalie and Chris.

"Natalie, your hand needs about three months to recover. The flesh here is badly damaged; whoever attacked you intended to hurt you seriously," Chris said, looking at Natalie with concern.

A hint of murderous intent appeared in Natalieโ€™s eyes. "Thatโ€™s true, but Iโ€™m not going to let him get away with it. He started it," she said.

Chris thought carefully and asked, "Do you think this guy might be working with Easton and Jennifer?"

Natalie replied, "He might. Easton would do anything for Jennifer, and if Jennifer is collaborating with the Spencer family, Easton might help her out too. But we donโ€™t have any proof. I discovered that Jennifer had met with Maxwell. But so far, Easton hasnโ€™t taken any action yet."

"If you wait for him to act, you will get schemed against again," Chris said, looking at her worriedly.

Natalie laughed in exasperation. "Chris, canโ€™t you just wish something good for me for once?"

Chris muttered, "But youโ€™re in a difficult situation. Back then, we told you that the Simpson and Garcia families were trouble, but you threw yourself in for the sake of alleged family ties and ended up getting hurt badly. I want to give you a good smack every time I see you."

Natalie chuckled and quickly changed the subject, "This oatmeal tastes pretty good."

"Of course, it does. I had my chef make it. Once youโ€™re better, Iโ€™d like to invite you and Jacob to come to my place. Iโ€™ll have the chef prepare some top-notch lobster sashimi for you."

Natalie turned to Jacob, saying, "Jacob, keep that in mind; once Iโ€™m discharged from the hospital, weโ€™ll go to his place for a meal."

Jacob looked at her bright smile and chuckled. "Alright, Natalie."

Chris said, "Youโ€™re afraid that I might run away? James is coming back soon. Whenโ€™s Gordon coming back? Gordon still owes me a meal. My family has a project and needs to work with him, so Iโ€™m waiting for him to come back."

Natalie smiled. "Gordon wonโ€™t be back until my birthday, so thereโ€™s no rush. You can collaborate with him when heโ€™s back."

"Sure. Iโ€™m really busy right now; many patients in the hospital are waiting for me to operate." Chris was truly a compassionate doctor who cared about his patients. The patients in his care were all well looked after, which was the original intention of his pursuit of medicine. Natalie could confidently entrust the hospital to him; he was the perfect candidate for the chief of the hospital.

After dinner, Jacob wouldnโ€™t leave, so Natalie said with a smile, "Jacob, Iโ€™ll be home soon. I can bandage myself there. Your grandma is getting discharged soon; have you found a place where youโ€™ll be staying?" Natalie seemed to remember that he had sold his house to save his grandma.

Jacob said, "Natalie, youโ€™ve given me plenty of money. I can just rent a place."

After giving it some thought, Natalie said, "You and your grandma can stay in my place near your university at Maple Street. I will tell you the password of the apartment. Donโ€™t feel pressured. I have many properties and donโ€™t like renting them out. Youโ€™re my friend. Youโ€™re welcome to take your grandma and stay there. A house needs to be inhabited to have a lively atmosphere. The house is spacious in a clean neighborhood; itโ€™s good for your grandmaโ€™s health."

When it came to Grandma, Jacob couldnโ€™t refuse. He would repay Natalie in the future. "Natalie, thank you."

Natalie gave a slight smile. That was all she could do for him.
