Listen to this chapter:

Alarieka nodded.

The arrival of the two cops made the noisy hospital room go quiet right away. Everyone stared at Alarieka, the cops, and the two men behind them with dark looks on their faces, and whispered a few things.

The policewoman said thoughtfully, “How about we find somewhere else to talk? It’s not very convenient here.”

Alarieka said calmly, “No need, this isn’t something that can’t be seen in the light. I’d actually rather let everyone know what happened.”

The male and female cops looked at each other. The female cop asked her, “You really don’t mind?”

Alarieka went “Mm”: “I don’t mind, go ahead.”

The policewoman said softly, “Okay, you don’t need to be nervous, we’re just here to investigate. As long as you’re innocent, we won’t do anything to you.”

Alarieka said, "Hmm."

She looked up and suddenly met Kieran and Patrick’s eyes.

The look in the two men’s eyes wasn’t exactly good, but it wasn’t too bad either. Alarieka could see clearly that the two men still thought it was her who dragged Roschelle into this.

She quietly looked away.

The policewoman sat down on the chair next to her, took out a notebook and a pen: “Alaricka, please tell us what happened, from the beginning.”

After listening, Alaricka looked up, her tone got a bit more serious.

“I just walked past the pool. Roschelle suddenly grabbed my hand and wouldn’t let go, said something. I tried to pull away, but Roschelle wouldn’t let go.”

“She jumped into the water herself, and when she did, she held onto my hand and wouldn’t let go, so I fell in too.”

The moment those words were out, Patrick stepped forward and shouted, “Alarieka, you’re talking crap!”

Alarieka looked calm, and even her eyes didn’t change at all.

She just let Patrick point at her nose and yell at her: “You think just because Rose isn’t here, you can do whatever you want and say whatever you like? You have no shame. So many people saw you drag Rose into this, and you still dared to argue in front of the police.”

The policewoman frowned and stood up, blocking Patrick. She said in a low voice, “Mr. Schultz, we’re working on a case right now. Please keep quiet and don’t disturb us.”

There was anger on Patrick’s face: “She’s lying, don’t listen to her.”

The male cop’s face darkened too: “Mr. Schultz, is she lying or not, we’ll investigate it thoroughly, but please don’t just throw out accusations before we know the real truth.”

Alarieka looked up, saw Kieran’s obviously bad expression and Patrick’s furious look, gave a slight smile, didn’t say anything, and there was actually sarcasm in her eyes.

Patrick was forced into a rage again by her look: “Alarieka, you-”

The policewoman got angry and said in a calm voice, “Mr. Schultz, if you keep disturbing other patients in the ward and keep interfering with our work, we’ll take you back to the station for obstructing official duties.”

Patrick gritted his teeth, his chest heaving with anger.

With everyone watching, he squeezed his eyes shut hard, took a steady breath, stepped back a few paces, and stood next to Kieran without saying anything. But his face was as dark as the bottom of a pot–what a sight.

The policewoman watched him for a few seconds, and only sat back down after making sure Patrick wouldn’t bother her again.

“Alarieka, you kept talking.”

Alarieka put her hands together on her lower belly and said calmly, “First, I’m willing to accept your investigation. The swimming pool where the incident happened was in the biggest, fanciest, and best-serviced six-star hotel in the city. The pool must have 360-degree surveillance with no blind spots. You can check it as you like.”

“Second, about what Patrick just said, I want to make it clear-”

The policewoman was a bit surprised.

The girl in front of me looked pale and bloodless, and she was really young. Her face was full of collagen. Usually, girls like this don't really know how to handle things, and they always seemed flustered when something like this happened.

But the girl in front of me had always stayed calm. She didn’t even flinch when Patrick provoked her, and she stated her attitude and sincerity clearly, word by word.

Clear mind, spoke fluently, logic was clear.

This was something so many people wished they could have.

Even she herself didn’t manage to do that.

The policewoman couldn’t help but get serious and listened to Alarieka with full attention.

“I couldn’t swim, and… I was afraid of water.”

The moment she finished speaking, the two cops were clearly stunned.

Alaricka went on, “According to Patrick, I was the one who dragged Roschelle into the water. That didn’t make any sense–I couldn’t swim and I was afraid of water.”
