Chapter 195
Patrick’s voice caught.
He thought about when Roschelle and Alarieka just fell into the water, and everyone went to save Roschelle, including Kieran. Only Alarieka, who couldn’t swim and was afraid of water, was left in the water. At that time, he watched Kieran go save her and just naturally thought Kieran knew Alarieka could swim, so he didn’t go help either.
He looked at Kieran with a complicated expression. “Then why didn’t you go save her at that time?”
Kieran didn’t answer, just looked down at Alarieka’s face.
The meaning of silence.
That was when the accident happened; Kieran didn’t think about Alarieka at all, he just focused on saving Roschelle. Patrick felt really mixed up inside. He was both surprised by Kieran’s obsession with Roschelle and shocked by Kieran’s coldness toward Alarieka. No matter what, Kieran and Roschelle had been siblings for a few years, how could there be no feelings at all? Kieran didn’t even notice Alarieka was still in the water until long after he saved Roschelle. That is to say, Kieran didn’t plan to save Alarieka at all.
In this way, it was actually a good thing for Roschelle. But Patrick couldn’t really feel happy. He put this unhappiness down to Kieran and Roschelle being so genuine, got jealous, and didn’t think much more about it. Patrick didn’t know what to say, and slowly clenched his fists.
Kieran said in a low voice, “Take them to the hospital first, let the police check the surveillance footage.”
Patrick’s eyes unconsciously fell on Alarieka’s face, and he nodded, “That’s the only way.”
Roschelle, who was sitting safe and sound in the chair, looked at the two men around Alarieka, and alarm bells immediately went off in her mind. Around her, except for those so-called friends, there was no one else, and just now, neither Kieran nor Patrick even looked at her. Even just one look. There had never been a moment like this, never because of Alarieka, Kieran, and Patrick ignoring her. This was the first time. Roschelle pinched her arm and forced herself to cough a few more times.
“Kier, Patrick, what’s wrong?”
Patrick immediately looked up and walked over to her, “It’s nothing, Alarieka passed out, we need to take her to the hospital too.”
Roschelle showed real concern: “How did you faint, are you hurt?”
Patrick said. “You still care about her? You’d better care about yourself. Look how pale you are.”
Roschelle pressed her lips together and gave a low laugh, “You worried about me too much. You guys saved me just in time. I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Roschelle thought saying this could warm things up a bit between her and Patrick, and make Patrick remember how important she was to him. But Patrick’s face fell.
Roschelle couldn’t help but pause: “What’s wrong?”
Patrick said in a low voice, “It’s okay.” He just remembered Alarieka, who was left out in the cold and nobody went to save her. If he had gone through this, he would’ve given up a long time ago.
But then, Patrick changed his mind. This time, it was clear that Alarieka pulled Róschelle into the water, so in a way, Alarieka just got what she deserved. If Alarieka didn’t do those things, someone would’ve definitely gone to save her. This was also the mess she brought on herself. Thinking like this, Patrick felt a lot better. He rubbed Roschelle’s head and said softly, “Don’t worry about her for now, I’ll take you to the hospital for a checkup first.”
Roschelle smiled and nodded, “Okay.”
Patrick looked up at Kieran. At that moment, Kieran was still holding Alaricka’s arm, his face dark, brows tightly knit, eyes fixed on Alaricka’s pale face. It was hard to tell what he was feeling. Patrick frowned instinctively, walked over, and roughly pulled Alaricka’s arm out of Kieran’s hand. He steadied Alarieka with a look of disgust, then said, “You take Rose to the hospital, I’ll take Alarieka.”
Kieran looked up, his eyes dark as he watched him.
Patrick frowned, “Don’t forget, you and Rose were the ones engaged. You should’ve remembered to keep your distance from other women.”
Kieran didn’t wait for him to finish, walked over to where Roschelle was, bent down, carefully helped Roschelle up from the chair, and put the coat hanging nearby over Roschelle’s shoulders. After finishing all that, Kieran finally said, “I knew what I was doing, you didn’t need to say anything.”
Right away, Patrick’s face turned dark.
When Alarieka woke up, her eyelashes fluttered as she opened her eyes, and she was met with a bright white light. The light was too bright, she could barely open her eyes. It took her a while to get used to it before she slowly opened her eyes.
