Chapter 775
Alexander had pre-arranged for a sales advisor to take him and Lily to a VIP room as soon as they arrived to select a diamond ring. Two more advisors then entered carrying trays laden with dozens of rings.
"Mr. and Mrs. Russell, please choose a ring."
Lily glanced sideways at Alexander, momentarily blinded by the glittering display. Under the bright lights, the diamonds shone dazzlingly.
"You can choose," Alexander said. "I asked them to reserve the latest and most unique rings, but I didn't pick one for you."
Lily surveyed the rings. Most were similar in design, differing only slightly in diamond size.
One advisor knelt before them. "Mrs. Russell, with your slender fingers and fair skin, this pink diamond ring would be stunning. It's from this year's latest collection, exceptionally crafted, and boasts high clarity." She used a jeweler's loupe to highlight the stone's brilliance. The pink diamond was enormous, almost blinding.
Lily remained silent. The other advisor immediately understood her disapproval. She picked up a different ring.
"This 'Forever Love' ring is also a beautiful choice. Its heart shape symbolizes Mr. Russell's love. The diamondโ"
Lily interrupted, her finger hovering over the tray before settling on a ring. "I'll take this one."
She chose a ring with a medium-sized central diamond surrounded by a halo of smaller stones. This arrangement made the center diamond appear larger, catching the eye from a distance, yet it was smallerโand less expensiveโthan the others showcased.
The two advisors exchanged disappointed glances. Alexander was the kind of high-value client they encountered only rarely. They'd anticipated a substantial commission, but Lily's choice surprised them.
Lily, meanwhile, slipped the ring onto her finger. "How does it look?" she asked Alexander, turning her hand.
He examined it closely. "It looks good!" he said. While he found her beautiful in anything, a concern flickered. "Isn't the diamond a little small? Would you like to consider a larger one?"
The advisors' eyes brightened with renewed hope. However, Lily shook her head.
"It's perfect. It's large enough without being overwhelming. Diamond rings are mostly for show; I don't need a huge one. I do experiments, so I won't wear it often. It'll probably stay in a box most of the time."
"Even if you don't wear it frequently, its value will appreciate," one advisor interjected quickly. Larger diamonds held greater value. Most wealthy women opted for the largest stone possible. Lily's choice was unconventional.
"Why would I care about preserving its value?" Lily smiled. "It's my wedding ring, but I might not keep it forever. It's just a stone to me."
Her matter-of-fact response left the advisors speechless.
