Chapter 774

"Why? Can't we be here to shop?"

Alexander glanced at Lily as he pulled into the underground parking space. Lily was speechless. They could shop, but it was rare for them to do so together. Initially, they couldn't because they needed to remain out of the public eye. Later, they were both too busy with work to find the time.

"Why is he bringing me shopping out of the blue?" Alexander parked the car, switched off the engine, but didn't immediately get out. Instead, he turned to Lily and said thoughtfully, "There's something I want to discuss with you."

"What is it?"

He lowered his gaze, then looked up and said, "Let's get married!"

Lily was stunned. Her eyes widened; she was speechless for a moment.

"You're so silly! We've already registered our marriage!"

"That's not what I mean. I want to have a wedding! A grand, spectacular wedding! I want everyone to know you're my wife!" Alexander said thoughtfully, taking her hand.

Lily was touched by his seriousness.

"Why? What's with the sudden thought?" Neither of them had given it much thought before; it was just a formality. Lily wondered why Alexander brought it up now.

"Your pregnancy made me think of a lot of things."

"I" Lily wanted to correct himโ€”she wasn't pregnant; it was a misunderstandingโ€”but he interrupted. "I know you're not pregnant now, but that's not the point. It reminded me that we haven't had a wedding after all this time. If you were pregnant someday, I wouldn't want you to go through the trouble with a big belly."

Lily listened silently. A sense of serenity filled the car. Her continued silence made him wonder about her thoughts.

"Do you feel you're not ready yet?"

Lily shook her head and grinned. "Sure. Let's get married."

"Really?" He was surprised, unable to hide his excitement. He hadn't expected such a smooth discussion. Even though they were legally married, Alexander felt the joy of a man proposing to his future wifeโ€”as if the girl he'd long loved had finally agreed to marry him. He'd never paid much attention to weddings before, but now he understood their significance: a man's desperate desire to show the world his beloved wife.

"You're right. Wearing a wedding dress with a big belly wouldn't look good." Lily's serious tone belied her teasing words.

"Let's go then!" Alexander quickly opened the door and got out.

"Whereโ€ฆto?" Lily couldn't keep up. He'd started by saying they were shopping, then talked about a wedding, and nowโ€ฆ? "How could we not have a wedding dress and rings? What better time to buy them than today? We're getting them now."

Lily was speechless, feeling trapped. She watched his back, hand in hand. Pursing her lips, she questioned, "Alex! Did you plan to trick me all along?"

Shopping? Discuss something with me? He totally came prepared!
