Chapter 605

Lily was speechless. This older gentleman was stubborn, refusing to listen and insistent on having his own way. The atmosphere soured as he maneuvered Lily into an awkward position. His tone was demanding; while seemingly soliciting her opinion, he offered no real choice. She could only say yes. Lawrence proved far more challenging than Noah. Noah, while annoying with his tricks and challenges, presented easily surmountable obstacles.

Lawrence, however, was different. A senior perfumer in his twilight years, he commanded respect within the industry. He had even sent her his invitation thrice. Lily had already rejected him twice; a third refusal would brand her an insolent young perfumer.

Initially, she suspected Noah, believing someone had stolen the society's seal to forge a fake invitation. The truth, however, proved far more complex. Lily suspected a calculated performance designed to force her compliance.

Since Lawrence was determined to pressure her, she resolved to reject him directly. Lily would not be coerced; she was set on refusing the Perfumers' Society. She was about to say, "Yes, thank you for the opportunity, but I must decline," when a familiar voice interrupted. "Honey," it said. An arm encircled her.

"I was wondering what kept you. Seems you've met Mr. Adler," he said, his arm comfortably around her shoulders, a smile directed at her. Turning to Lawrence, he added, "What brings you here? It's rare to see you in person!"

"Alexander?" Lawrence was surprised. He recognized Alexander instantly but hadn't expected his presence in Kingsland, especially at that moment. Alexander held Lily affectionately.

Lawrence's gaze fell on Alexander's handโ€”perfectly shaped, with long, slender fingersโ€”resting lightly on Lily's shoulder. Alexander, noticing Lawrence's observation, exclaimed, "Oh my, I forgot introductions. She's my wife, Lily Christian."

"Honey, this is Mr. Adler, advisor to the country's most prestigious Perfumers' Society. You're so lucky to meet him!" Alexander's public introduction caused Lily inner turmoil; she winced at the "honey." Heโ€™d never used that term before, even privately. Yet, his presence filled her with undeniable happiness.

"Mr. Russell, I didn't know you were in Kingsland. I would have made sure you were well cared for!" Noah stepped forward. "And, Mr. Adler was considering Ms. Christian for our society. I'm sure you're pleased to see it happen."

"What? Her?" Alexander turned, staring at Lily in shock. "Mr. Richards, this is a joke, right? How could that be?"

"Of course not. Since Mr. Adler's here, why don't you ask him?" Noah shifted the responsibility to Lawrence.
