Chapter 427
"Oh, I understand. Don't worry. It'll be fine," she said, hanging up the phone. She worriedly stared at the enormous wooden box. She had no idea how the security guard had managed to bring it upstairs. It was a struggle even to wrap her arms around it. Alexander had told her to get someone to move it to a more spacious location; but who was she going to ask?
While Lily stressed over this, Olivia, beside her, beamed excitedly. Olivia had already eaten breakfast and cleaned up before arriving. Noticing Lily staring at the box, she approached and asked, "Why haven't you opened it?"
"I'm scared it might be a prank," Lily replied, turning to Olivia helplessly. "Besides, how do I even dismantle this thing?"
"It should be easy. You'll need pliers and a screwdriver!" Olivia seemed knowledgeable.
"Then you do it!" Lily instantly seized the opportunity.
After rolling up her sleeves, Olivia paused just as she was about to begin, smiling. "My knowledge is purely theoretical. I've never actually done this before. It's best to find a professional."
That seemed like a good idea.
Lily found a handyman who arrived with a tool bag. After some hammering, he announced, "This is an easy task!" In seconds, he had pried open the box. Everyone in the room held their breath. No one knew what was inside; curiosity warred with apprehension. Once the box was open, however, everyone exclaimed, "Wow!"
It wasn't a prank. It was a beautifully crafted wooden sculpture of a crane with outstretched wings, standing on one leg, the other drawn up as if preparing for flight. The wood retained its natural color. The lines and carving were precise, giving the crane a dynamic appearance. The workmanship was clearly top-notch.
Jenny, who had been dealing with some business, arrived and was astonished by the large sculpture. "Wow, what is this?!"
Olivia trotted over. "Jen! Someone gave this to Lily as a gift! Isn't it beautiful?"
"A gift?" Jenny asked, circling the crane twice in surprise. "This is an extraordinary gift!" Then, remembering Nathaniel's balloon confession, she guessed, "Did that Hall guy send this?"
Lily was startled by her directness and shook her head. Although initially stunned, she quickly recognized the sender. The wood, the craftsmanshipโonly one young man she knew possessed such skill.
'He didn't disappear after all! Maybe he didn't leave the country. Otherwise, how did he get this sent to me?' she thought.
Lily had mentioned wanting a meaningful sculpture for her grandfather's birthday, but had no specific design in mind. She could envision fragrances creatively, but sculptures eluded her. She had only a vague idea of what she wanted. Her plan had been to discuss the design as the young man worked, but he had quit unexpectedly.
Yet, within days, he'd completed the sculptureโbeautifully. She was surprised he'd taken her request so seriously.
