Chapter 428
"If this isn't a gift from that bastard, Nathaniel, thenโฆ it's from your boyfriend," Olivia said, smiling meaningfully at Lily. She was the only one who knew Lily's boyfriend. Lily almost denied it, but changed her mind. Continued denial would only pique everyone's curiosity more than the gift itself. To avoid further questions, she simply replied, "Yeah!"
"Wow, look how creative her boyfriend is!"
"Yeah, I've seen flowers, chocolates, makeup, and handbags, but this is the first time I've seen a wooden sculpture!"
"By the way, shouldn't your boyfriend send you rare spices or plants instead, Lily? Something you'd actually like!"
Her colleagues chattered incessantly. Jenny, noticing their distraction, coughed. "Why don't I see this much enthusiasm during meetings?" Her comment abruptly silenced them. They were still at work, after all. Everyone returned to their tasks.
Jenny glanced around before focusing on Lily. "Whyโฆ why don't you put it in my office for now? You can take it home after work."
Lily considered this, then nodded. "All right!"
Unpacking wasn't difficult; she just needed to be careful with the crane, which seemed fragile. The packaging was enormous due to the large wooden frame and extensive cushioning.
Fortunately, the crane was undamaged after the handyman's earlier unpacking. Lily moved it to the corner of the office. Its lifelike appearance made it even more appealing. Jenny admired it repeatedly, delighted. "Can you ask your boyfriend where he got it? I want to buy one! It's stunning!"
Lily remained silent.
"What's wrong? Can't I even ask? Don't worry, I won't buy the same one. I don't have someone to gift it to, but I can buy one for myself, right?" Jenny nudged Lily playfully.
"I'll ask him when I get home." The gift had arrived anonymously, so Lily didn't know how to contact the sender. And given his temperament, she doubted he'd be willing to fulfill other orders.
"Ms. Gray," Olivia announced, knocking.
"Come in," Jenny replied.
Olivia entered. Looking at Lily, she said, "Lily, Nathaniel publicly apologized."
"What?!" Lily was stunned, thinking she'd misheard.
"He apologized?" Jenny was equally shocked. Immediately, she turned on her computer and found Nathaniel's apologyโa lengthy, essay-like post that had already gained traction.
"He admitted it?" Jenny raised an eyebrow, looking at the others. The three of them read the statement together.
