Chapter 426

โ€œTell us! What did you buy?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s a big piece of furniture!โ€

Many colleagues gathered around curiously; some even leaned in to look inside. However, the box was so tightly sealed that all they saw were wooden boards.

โ€œI didnโ€™t buy it!โ€ Lily shook her head, placing a hand on the wooden box. โ€œDid security say anything about who sent it?โ€

Her colleagues all shook their heads, indicating they knew nothing.

Tapping her fingers on the wooden frame, Lily wondered who sent the box and how to open it. What was inside this enormous thing? Could her recent prominence have provoked a retaliatory act? This thought made her abruptly pull back her hand, as if fearing a bite.

Olivia rushed over, pancakes in hand. โ€œWow, this box is huge! Whatโ€™s inside?โ€

Lily looked at her and casually said, โ€œA bomb!โ€

Olivia jumped back, thankfully not dropping her pancakes. Wide-eyed, she asked, โ€œReally?!โ€

โ€œOf course not. Itโ€™s a joke. How could we stay here if it were real?โ€

A nearby colleague laughed. โ€œWe have no idea whatโ€™s inside. Weโ€™re all very curious! Lily, if you didnโ€™t buy it, it must be from a guy! Could it be your boyfriend?โ€

Lily considered this, amused by their joking. Could Alexander have sent it?

She took out her phone and found a quiet corner to call. After a few rings, Alexander answered. His magnetic voice eased her worries. โ€œYou just left this morning, and youโ€™ve missed me already?โ€

โ€œIs that why you sent me a gift?โ€ Lily asked.

Alexander was stunned. โ€œGift? What gift? Are you asking me to buy you something?โ€

โ€œDidnโ€™t you send one?โ€ Lilyโ€™s surprise increased at his tone. It wasnโ€™t him, then.

โ€œHuh? Did someone give you something? What is it? Flowers? Or is itโ€ฆ balloons?โ€ Alexanderโ€™s sensitivity to โ€œballoonsโ€ was evident.

โ€œNo, no, itโ€™s none of those. I was just asking around. Forget it!โ€

As she was about to hang up, his impatient voice cut through. โ€œWhat do you mean forget it? You called me about thisโ€”it must be a big gift you like. What is it? Donโ€™t you know who gave it to you?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know who gave it or whatโ€™s in it. How would I know if I like it?โ€ She sighed. โ€œItโ€™s a big, sealed wooden box. I canโ€™t see inside.โ€

Alexander was silent for a moment. โ€œThen donโ€™t open it yet. Get someone to move it to an open space before you try.โ€

Lily laughed. โ€œYou donโ€™t think thereโ€™s a bomb in there, do you? Donโ€™t worry. If it were a bomb, it wouldโ€™ve exploded by now. I didnโ€™t hear any sound.โ€

โ€œWhatever it is, be careful.โ€
