Chapter 426
โTell us! What did you buy?โ
โThatโs a big piece of furniture!โ
Many colleagues gathered around curiously; some even leaned in to look inside. However, the box was so tightly sealed that all they saw were wooden boards.
โI didnโt buy it!โ Lily shook her head, placing a hand on the wooden box. โDid security say anything about who sent it?โ
Her colleagues all shook their heads, indicating they knew nothing.
Tapping her fingers on the wooden frame, Lily wondered who sent the box and how to open it. What was inside this enormous thing? Could her recent prominence have provoked a retaliatory act? This thought made her abruptly pull back her hand, as if fearing a bite.
Olivia rushed over, pancakes in hand. โWow, this box is huge! Whatโs inside?โ
Lily looked at her and casually said, โA bomb!โ
Olivia jumped back, thankfully not dropping her pancakes. Wide-eyed, she asked, โReally?!โ
โOf course not. Itโs a joke. How could we stay here if it were real?โ
A nearby colleague laughed. โWe have no idea whatโs inside. Weโre all very curious! Lily, if you didnโt buy it, it must be from a guy! Could it be your boyfriend?โ
Lily considered this, amused by their joking. Could Alexander have sent it?
She took out her phone and found a quiet corner to call. After a few rings, Alexander answered. His magnetic voice eased her worries. โYou just left this morning, and youโve missed me already?โ
โIs that why you sent me a gift?โ Lily asked.
Alexander was stunned. โGift? What gift? Are you asking me to buy you something?โ
โDidnโt you send one?โ Lilyโs surprise increased at his tone. It wasnโt him, then.
โHuh? Did someone give you something? What is it? Flowers? Or is itโฆ balloons?โ Alexanderโs sensitivity to โballoonsโ was evident.
โNo, no, itโs none of those. I was just asking around. Forget it!โ
As she was about to hang up, his impatient voice cut through. โWhat do you mean forget it? You called me about thisโit must be a big gift you like. What is it? Donโt you know who gave it to you?โ
โI donโt know who gave it or whatโs in it. How would I know if I like it?โ She sighed. โItโs a big, sealed wooden box. I canโt see inside.โ
Alexander was silent for a moment. โThen donโt open it yet. Get someone to move it to an open space before you try.โ
Lily laughed. โYou donโt think thereโs a bomb in there, do you? Donโt worry. If it were a bomb, it wouldโve exploded by now. I didnโt hear any sound.โ
โWhatever it is, be careful.โ
