Spoiled by Mr. Russell, Chapter 21
Dr. Blanc knew Alexander was cautious, but felt compelled to reiterate his caution. "Don't worry," Alexander said, half-jokingly. "Even though I'm worried about my wife, I won't overcommit. Besides, I only want to save her, not go to war with them."
Dr. Blanc nodded. "I know you won't, but your friend..."
"He's impulsive at times, but he understands the stakes," Alexander assured him. "Whether we succeed or not, we'll leave as planned. We won't engage them or give them any leverage. You have my word."
Alexander understood Dr. Blanc's concern; they were dealing with embassy personnel. He wouldn't jeopardize Dr. Blanc's position and was grateful for the doctor's support. The situation also involved international relations, and Alexander lacked concrete evidence against the other party. Even if he had evidence, discretion was paramount.
"All the best, then!" Dr. Blanc sighed, patting Alexander's shoulder. He glanced at Austin before leaving.
Austin hadn't understood their conversation, but sensed it concerned Lily. Their discretion signaled he shouldn't pry. Though curious, he remained silent, following Dr. Blanc.
At the door, Austin turned back. "Make sure you bring Lily back safely, okay?"
Alexander raised a brow, smiled faintly, and nodded. After they left, he glanced at Edward. "Bring him over."
Edward nodded and left, returning shortly with Mike. Mike was agitated. "Hey, why didn't you let me join you earlier?"
Despite his words, Mike had hesitated before entering.
Alexander shrugged. "I'm sure you'll understand."
Mike, wanting to move on, said, "Looks like you have everything sorted. When do we leave?"
"Well, you're not going this time."
Mike's agitation increased. "I'm not? What do you mean?"
"You're too impulsive."
"I'm notโ" Mike saw Alexander's expression and subsided. "I'm just upset you won't let me go!"
