"Of course," Marcus acknowledged, finally leaving.
Alexander examined the item Marcus had given him: a passportโa document granting him smooth access to the Yudonian embassy. Accompanying it was a note from Cameron, vouching for Alexander as a friend and requesting favorable treatment.
While seemingly ordinary, the passport was invaluable. He knew the embassy wasn't easily accessible, which explained his previous difficulty. Cameron's timely assistance was a significant breakthrough.
"Things will go much smoother with these," he murmured.
Five days postpartum, Lily felt considerable improvement. The wound pain had lessened, though vigorous movement still caused some discomfort. She was already getting out of bed and moving around, eager to expedite her recovery. Delay would impede her future plans.
As she circled the room, supporting her waist, the ward door opened. Several people entered, carrying a wheelchair.
"What are you doing?" Lily asked, turning.
They didn't answer, instead approaching, flanking her, blindfolding her, and settling her into the wheelchair. They began pushing her toward the exit. Initial panic gave way to calm. Their methods seemed almost absurd.
'It's the same routineโblindfold and relocation. They constantly shift my location. Do they think this avoids suspicion and hides their intentions?'
While initially effective, the constant moves had become predictable. After repeated instances, Lily discerned patterns. Initially, the organization's power and background had been mysterious, causing fear and restricting movement. Now, she was starting to understand their methods.
'Are they taking me to see Fred again, or the mastermind?' A flicker of anticipation remained.
The journey, whether circuitous or lengthy, consumed considerable time. Finally stopping, Lily realized she was alone. The surroundings were spacious, uncluttered, and not small.
Confirming she was alone, she removed her blindfold. Her eyes adjusted slowly; she instinctively shielded them.
Then, a hoarse, aged voice: "Hello, Ms. Christian."
