Upon hearing the voice, Lily paused, then opened her eyes, quickly locating its source. Her surroundings consisted of only chairs; nothing else was present. Directly in front of her stood a large folding screen, from which the voice emanated.
Calmly seated in her wheelchair, Lily looked ahead and spoke mockingly. "Aren't you proud? You think you control everything by manipulating others, sending them in circles?"
The person sighed. "No, that's not what I intended. I admire you, Ms. Christian."
"Oh?" Lily raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Do you admire my talent, abilities, or my body?"
Silence followed. The person seemed to contemplate before slowly responding, "All of them."
"Well, I'm honored! So, you'll take my body once it has recovered, right?" Lily glanced down at her body, as if it were a mere object she could trade or give away.
"Ms. Christian, I didn't intend for things to reach this point, but there's no other way. I sincerely apologize. If you have any wishes, needs for compensation, or unfulfilled desires, I can fulfill them," the person said politely.
Were Lily a fool, she might have considered this kindness and generosity. However, she knew their intentions. She sneered. "Is that so?"
"I promise!"
"All right then, I want to stay alive. I don't want to give you my body. I want to leave this place and for you to abandon your harmful experiments. Can you do that?" Lily's words flowed without pause.
A moment of contemplation, then silence. Only a heavy, rough sound echoed.
"Ms. Christian, you're deliberately making things difficult. You know I can't do that."
"In that case, don't make grand promises about fulfilling any wish. It's empty talk!" Lily sneered. She knew they couldn't fulfill her request; bold claims were easy to make. "But you mentioned harmful experiments?" The voice sounded puzzled.
"What, do you think you're conducting life-saving experiments? Don't delude yourself!" Lily heard nothing further from behind the screen. The connection seemed abruptly severed.
Finding this strange, Lily tilted her head and carefully observed. Unable to sense anyone behind the small gap in the screen, she stood and approached it. No one stopped her. Reaching the side, she peered behind it, but found no one.
