"That must be the device that disabled the surveillance system," Lily observed, noting the extinguished CCTV lights. "He's not lying, but why did he do it?"
"We've told you everything. I don't understand what further truth you expect," Lily said, rising to get water, adding some warm water to her glass. Mike assisted her.
Lily smiled. "Thanks." She drank half the glass.
Rick watched quietly. "Given your relationship, I don't believe you're not collaborating."
Lily chuckled. "Collaborating to do what, I wonder? How long have you been in Hyderland?"
Rick narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean?"
"You haven't been here long enough to use the correct terminology," Lily explained.
"You think I'm using the wrong words?" Rick scoffed. "I'm giving you a chance. Don't appreciate it, and I'll follow procedure!"
"Follow procedure?" Lily sneered. "You've always done things your way. If you plan to kill us for what happened to the boss, do it. As you said, Mike and I are no match for you."
"Provocations won't work," Rick said coldly. "Where is the boss?"
"Why do you think we're responsible? Why didn't you kill us in the conference room? Are you putting on a show for your superiors?" Mike retorted. "Do you think you can threaten us by kidnapping the boss?"
"Of course not!" Mike said immediately. "The boss is just a messenger. The higher-ups can easily replace him. He's insignificant to them!"
Rick studied him thoughtfully. A tense silence followed.
Lily cleared her throat. "I have no idea why you think we did it, but arguing is pointless. Fine, we're guilty. What are you going to do?"
Mike stared at Lily, surprised by her confession. She calmly met Rick's gaze.
"No," Rick said gravely. "I should ask what you will do."
Lily was taken aback. Rick leaned forward, hands on his knees. "Mrs. Russell, the experiment is in its final phase. The 'boss' is irrelevant. I'm more interested in knowing what you will do."
Lily, surprised but composed, replied, "I don't understand."
