Mike felt a vague sense of impending danger, his gaze instinctively falling upon Lily's unconcerned demeanor. She lounged lazily in her chair, even shifting her position slightly. "Mr. Rick, this seems an unwelcome visit," she stated.
"There's a misunderstanding," Rick replied coldly, withdrawing his hand from Mike's shoulder and moving to the chair opposite Lily. He sat, then said, "I came here because I have some questions for you both."
Mike's shoulders relaxed, only to tense again instantly. Lily raised an eyebrow, calmly meeting Rick's gaze. "I thought we covered everything in the meeting room."
Rick raised a hand, pressing something within it. A faint "pop," like a small explosion, echoed, followed by a burnt smell. Mike stared, stunned. "You..." he began.
"There are too many things in here. I destroyed them," Rick said, withdrawing his hand. "Now, nothing can hinder our conversation."
"You ruined the CCTVs and audio recorders?" Lily's expression remained unchanged until this point, then she frowned slightly.
Rick nodded. "Did you kidnap the boss?"
The direct question made Mike tense. His eyes widened, fingers clenching as his heart pounded. He glanced at Lily, his thoughts racing. What does he mean? Is he probing us or seeking revenge?
Rick's face remained inscrutable, but Mike's mind already formulated a plan. If Rick seeks revenge, will I have a chance to protect Lily? Can I ensure her safety?
Rick's gaze seemed to pierce Mike's thoughts. "You'd have no chance against me," he stated coldly.
Mike was speechless.
"What about you?" Rick turned sharply to Lily. "I know you come from a family of renowned kickboxers, and you're highly skilled. But you're currently disabled. Even if you weren't pregnant, I don't fight women."
"So, you're asking us to surrender?" Lily asked, her face betraying no emotion.
"No. I simply mean I have no intention of fighting you. If I did, you'd have no chance of escape," he replied sincerely.
"Rick, what are you trying to say?" Mike asked, perplexed. He rarely interacted with Rick and didn't understand his intentions.
"I'm being frank. I want the truth," Rick said, tossing something onto the table and leaning back. Lily glanced at itโa small controller, resembling a car key, but clearly something else.
