Chapter 1726

Since Edward had yelled at him, Alexander ceased arguing.

"When and how did you return? Why did you block me? You know I've been looking for you. What happened?"

"We both know what happened," Edward said coldly. "Why should we go through it again?"

"I don't!" Alexander replied, his imposing demeanor unchanged. He raised his brows and studied Edward.

"Tell me exactly what happened that day. We were caught in a gunfight before boarding the plane."

"You let me go first and took bullets for me. I'll always remember that. I sent people to look for you upon my return, but they failed. I want to know what happened afterward and how you returned!"

Alexander recounted the events clearly, without a hint of guilt. Olivia watched intently, searching for inconsistencies or signs of deception, yet felt inexplicably convinced of his truthfulness. She mused, Considering Edward's unwavering loyalty to Alexander over the years, he would indeed take bullets for him. Her gaze shifted to Edward. He's my lover. I've seen his wounds, his blood, his suffering. What is the truth if his account is a lie?

"If that's your story, I have nothing to say," Edward said, turning his wheelchair away. "Leave. I've heard enough."

"Edward, we've been together for years. You should know how I've treated youโ€”"

Edward interrupted, "How you treated me? You're right! I always thought you were a good boss, but it was only during that moment of life and death that I realizedโ€ฆ"

"That I cared only about my own life?" Alexander interjected, taking three steps forward and forcefully turning the wheelchair to face Edward.

Startled, Edward attempted to turn away, but it was too late.

"Edward! That's not the first time we faced life or death. You've taken bullets and knives for me before. When have I ever used you as a human shield? Why would I push you when I knew you'd take the bullets? Did you see me do that, or did someone tell you?" Alexander's gaze was unwavering, intense, as if searching Edward's soul.

"I don't want to talk to you. I have nothing to say!" Edward looked away, his disgust and impatience evident.

"Do you have nothing to say, or do you not know how to answer? Maybe you can't find an answer in your rehearsed speeches," Alexander pressed.

Edward's continued evasiveness only intensified Alexander's questioning.

"I almost died for you and did what I was supposed to do. From now on, I want nothing to do with you. Both of you, leave!" Edward, agitated, flung a blanket and other items at them, yelling maniacally. "Argh!"
