Chapter 1725

Lily pulled Olivia aside when she saw her distress. "Olivia, stop letting your emotions cloud your judgment. Let's discuss this like adults. What happened? Why did you think Alex pushed Edward and used him as a human shield? Who told you that? Don't forget the incident with the ring; perhaps someone tried to turn us against each other."

That had to be the explanation. Otherwise, Olivia wouldn't have become so upset and asked Lily to choose between her and Alexander. Now, Olivia treated Alexander as a murderer.

"No, that's not the same thing!" Olivia vehemently denied it.

"How is it not? Even that could be fabricated, let alone an accusation. Youโ€”" Lily began, but a voice interrupted.

"Edward told you that, didn't he?"

Lily turned, astonished to see Alexander. "Alex?" she asked, confused.

Olivia, equally surprised by his statement, sneered. "So, you admit it?"

"I think you believe it so firmly because Edward said so," Alexander clarified, not admitting guilt. He paused. "I suspect a misunderstanding, since Edward refuses to see me. If that's the case, tell him to come out. Shouldn't we talk face-to-face?"

Lily frowned, glancing toward the bedroom. Two bedrooms, one on each side of the corridor, had their doors closed. If anyone else was in the apartment, they were in one of those rooms.

"He doesn't want to see you!" Olivia turned, wiping away tears. "There's nothing to discuss. Just go! He worked for you, saved you willingly, but you disappointed him. Let's never meet again!"

"No!" Lily stated firmly. "We must resolve this misunderstanding! If Alex truly did it, I wouldn't forgive him, but what if Edward misunderstood? Since we're here, why not let them sort it out?"

Olivia hesitated, accustomed to following Lily's lead, even idolizing her. Were it not for what happened to Edward, she wouldn't harbor resentment toward Lily. Lily's words swayed her.

As she hesitated, a deep male voice echoed from the corridor: "There's no need. I have nothing to say to Alex!"

The three turned to see Edward emerging in a wheelchair, looking considerably thinner. His gaze was icy.

"Edward," Alexander called, starting toward him.

"Don't come any closer!" Edward stopped, raising a hand. "Stay where you are!"
