Chapter 1724

Lily followed Olivia, then signaled Alexander to join them. The apartment was unusually messy; Olivia was meticulous, usually keeping it spotless. The carpet lay askew, the trash can overflowed, and drinkware was scattered on the table. The sofa showed signs of someone having lain on it, cushions strewn about. However, Edward was nowhere in sight.

Downstairs, Lily had intended to inquire about Edward's health, but Olivia's demeanor changed her mind.

"Olivia, you haven't called lately, even though nothing much is happening at the studio. Is something wrong?"

She paused, watching Olivia pour water. "Is it because of Edward?"

Even with her back turned, Lily saw Olivia's shoulders tremble. Olivia handed Lily the water. Then, fixing Alexander with a quivering, hateful gaze, she said, "Perhaps you should ask him!"

Alexander was bewildered. "You asked me whom I'd choose between you and Alex, and now this? What happened? What does Alex have to do with it?" Lily continued, "You're right! Edward was injured, put in danger protecting Alex. If you resent him for that, I understand." Alexander was surprised; he'd been unaware of Olivia's question to Lily. He wondered, 'What does she mean by choosing between her and me? Why would Lily have to choose? How are we on opposing sides?' Olivia looked aggrieved.

"Lily, we've known each other for years. Am I the type to blame others without reason? Edward was his bodyguard, valued Alexander's life above his own. Getting hurt protecting Alexander was part of his job. Would I resent him for it?"

Lily was even more puzzled. "Then why?"

"Doing his job and being pushed into danger are entirely different things!"

Taking a deep breath, Olivia fought back tears. She looked to the distance, then at Alexander. "It's good you're here. I need to ask—why did you push Edward?"

Alexander was perplexed. 'The more I listen, the less I understand.'

"Why aren't you saying anything? Do you admit it?" Olivia's eyes seemed to accuse him.

Alexander raised a hand to stop her. "Hold on! You're saying I used Edward as a human shield, leaving him to fend for himself? You think I pushed him and abandoned him?"

Lily exclaimed, "How could that be possible?"

"Yeah, how could that be possible?" Olivia repeated sarcastically, a bitter chuckle escaping her.
