Chapter 1439
Anastasia seemed a completely different person. Not only had her complexion improved, but her entire demeanor had changed. Before her weight gain, even when Rhea visited infrequently, Anastasia would shuffle about with downcast eyes, speaking slowly and bitterly. Now, her eyes sparkled, her posture was erect, and she met gazes confidently.
Maria had mentioned Lily's name excessively. Even Austin, in the lab, frequently brought her up. It was difficult for Rhea to ignore the repeated mentions.
"No, it's nothing major. I just visit Lily's occasionally for meals. Aunt Maria seems to dislike her. Did she say something? Lily is lovely! I'll introduce you when I can. Since you're both intelligent, I'm sure you'll get along!" Anastasia quickly explained, sensing Rhea's prejudice stemmed from her aunt's influence.
"Sure!" Rhea forced a smile. "I have things to do. Take care!"
"It's late. Aren't you going home?" Anastasia added quickly, knowing Rhea disliked returning home, "Aunt Maria misses you very much!"
Rhea paused, sneering. "Misses me?" She didn't elaborate and left.
Anastasia watched her drive away stylishly, a pang of envy tugging at her. She'd always dreamed of driving but her physical limitations prevented her from even sitting behind the wheel. Even if she could drive, she had nowhere to go; she rarely ventured out before. She'd eventually abandoned the dream.
However, her improved mood and newfound enjoyment of outings had reignited the desire. Learning to drive would be more convenient, especially for visiting Lily. The long-dormant idea had resurfaced.
When Lily opened her eyes, she saw a small head, two round eyes fixed intently on her. Startled, she remembered she'd slept in her son's room. She hadn't realized she'd slept so soundly.
"Good morning!" Lily smiled, stroking his head.
Galen's eyes widened. "Mommy, why are you here? Where's Daisy? Did you come to sleep with me?"
"Yes, I slept here to keep you company. From now on, Mommy will sleep here with you, okay?" She replied, gently patting his head.
The child's immediate search for Daisy upon waking highlighted his dependence on her and their close bond. This was positive; it showed Daisy genuinely cared for Galen, and he reciprocated. However, it also alarmed Lily; his dependence made him vulnerable to Daisy's potential manipulation. She planned to gradually distance Daisy from him.
Galen, oblivious to her concerns, was delighted by the prospect of his mother's companionship.
"Okay!" he exclaimed. "What about Daisy?"
"She'll sleep in the guest room and care for you during the day," Lily answered softly, pulling him into a hug.
