Chapter 1440

"Mommy has a question for you," Lily said gently to Galen. "Do you like Daisy?" She wanted to gauge the depth of his affection for the nanny.

"I like her!" he replied, nodding without hesitation.

Lily continued, "So, how much do you like her?"

"Hmm..." He hesitated, looking slightly flustered. He didn't know how to express it.

"Let's put it this way," Lily guided him. "Do you like Daisy more, or do you like Mommy and Daddy more?"

"Mommy and Daddy!" he answered promptly. The comparison seemed to work.

Lily was relieved. If Galen had chosen Daisy over her and Alexander, she would have needed some serious self-reflection.

"Well, Mommy wants to tell you that Daisy will be leaving us soon," she said.

Galen's eyes widened. "Why?"

"She's our nanny," Lily explained, "but you won't need a babysitter when you're older. She might also leave if she has personal matters to attend to at home. She's like the other maidsโ€”we have an employment relationship. They're here to work, and they leave when their work is done or they choose to. Do you understand?" She tried to keep it simple, but Galen still seemed confused.

He frowned, deep in thought, processing her words. Just as Lily considered rephrasing her explanation, he asked, "Why can't she take care of me all the time?"

His question surprised her. After all, he was still quite young.

"No one can take care of you forever, baby, not even Mommy and Daddy," she replied. "You're a little man now, but soon you'll be a big man, and you'll need to learn to take care of yourself. Of course, we'll take care of you while you're still young!" She pointed to her stomach. "And when you grow up, you'll take care of your younger siblings, won't you?"

His eyes lit up at the prospect of caring for future siblings. "Of course!"

"Then, if Daisy leaves one day, you can't cry, okay?" Lily attempted to gently prepare him for Daisy's departure.

"Is she not coming back?" he asked.

"Hmm... maybe!" Lily replied thoughtfully.

"Oh." Galen pouted, saying nothing more. It was difficult to judge his level of understanding, but at least she had planted the seed of the idea.

As they spoke, the door opened, and Daisy entered. Seeing Lily and Galen, she smiled, startled.

"Madam, you're awake! Am I late?"

"Daisy..." Galen jumped from the bed, running towards her with outstretched arms.

Daisy scooped him up, smiling. "Have you brushed your teeth and washed your face yet?"

"No, no..." he murmured.

"Okay. I'll take you to get cleaned up," she said, gently tapping his nose.

"Okay."

As Daisy left with Galen, Lily called out, "Daisy!"

Daisy turned, looking quizzical. "Yes, madam?"
